Chris and Peter made us feel completely at home and were a great source of local walking advice (high up and windblown or gentle woody walks!). They know a lot about the history of the area too. Service was friendly and we felt catered for as individuals, not faceless customers. We could see the coast of Scotland from the house, the shower was great, breakfast home made, lovely old characterful building full of woodwork made by Peter. Good pub and shop just down the road. Great place to stay to explore Hadrian's Wall or stop by on the Pennine way or for some cycling on the coast to coast. Thank you for a lovely stay

I was fortunate to stay here for a walking weekend in May 2012 & would love an excuse to revisit.
The charming & helpful hosts Chris & Peter have modernised the property while retaining its character and provide comfortable accommodation with some spectacular views. Of note- comfortable bed, lovely hot showers in well- specified shower room, drying facilities, great hearty breakfasts with home-baked bread & local produce.
The village is small but has the essentials including a shop and a pub which serves nice food.
Do take the opportunity to admire Peter's work. His woodworking skill is evident in the fixtures around the property but his artistry & love of wood shines through in his beautifully crafted products.

It was my party recently, a big oh unfortunately! We didn’t have room for everyone who wanted to stay, so some stayed at the newly opened “old School house” B&B in Hallbankgate. And what a treat they had. The rooms are really very well finished, as well as being homely and comfortable. The ensuite showers are really roomy. In-room facilities include TV/DVD/radio as well as tea/coffee with fresh milk. There’s a guest lounge, which is also where breakfast is served, with fabulous views as far as the Solway and Scottish mountains. They have free Wi-Fi access if you need it. They also have a lot of info about local events and activities, which would make it a great place for a slightly longer stay.
Peter and Christine are really friendly and will make you very welcome indeed. Much of the food they serve is locally produced, e.g. fresh eggs from their own hens. Tea & Coffee is all Fair-trade. The home-made bread is particularly good. Overall a great experience and definitely value for money.

Room Tip: Just two to choose from - both excellent
