Thank you for your review and I am really pleased you enjoy staying with us and we look forward to your return.
The food is outstanding, there were some real surprises, including carrot sorbet! Excellent choice of wines available. Service is friendly, attentive but not overly fussy.
We stayed in the Partridge room and it was extremely comfortable. The room is large and spacious with a sofa, TV, tea making facilities and a nice window seat. There were no noisy distractions and with the heavy curtains, we could have easily slept until lunchtime. The ensuite bathroom is very well appointed and has a separate whirlpool bath and monsoon shower.
The bar has a very welcoming open fire and it was very relaxing to sit and read here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.
Thank you for your review, Partridge is a lovely room with lots of space and superbly quiet too. We look forward to seeing you again.
We spent one night here on a trip through the UK. The food is incredible, we couldn’t believe they don’t have a Michelin star (or two!). In fact, strangely, they only have 2 AA rosettes. We’ve been to many restaurants with stars and their food is certainly in this category.
Our room and bathroom were spacious and fitted to a very high standard. The local village doesn’t have much to to see or do but there are beautiful walks in the stunning local countryside which was what we were hoping for anyway.
We were travelling with our dog and they are also very pet friendly!
Thank you for your review, people that find us by chance are always extremely and pleasantly surprised, especially by the food, yes we too think we deserve that star! Lots of walks in the area especially if you have brought your dog. Next time try visiting Crawick Multiverse it is fantastic.
We enjoyed a very fine country house hotel weekend break at Blackaddie House. The food was excellent in choice, preparation and taste at all meals - the wine list extensive but pricey for the French. The service was stretched on the first evening by serving 17 people simultaneously - but was always friendly and helpful. I did not notice the lack of espresso coffee myself - but would have been disappointed if I could not have asked for one.
Our room was "Grouse" - a large room with a very comfortable four poster bed - a good room but you need to ask for a wifi booster.
Sanquhar is an interesting town and area to visit - lots of history etc. The superb Dumfreis House is not far away and, in Sanquhar, there is the new Crawick Multiverse - truly an "out of this world" experience - though muddy in places.
Thank you for you r positive review, Grouse as you say is a lovely very big room with a huge bathroom that includes a Jacuzzi. As always in the country, and more especially up here in Scotland Wi-fi can sometimes be a problem but one we hope to have sorted out very soon. Your are right about Crawick Multiverse, it is worth visiting.
We are just back from a brilliant weekend with a large group of friends at the Blackaddie. I could not praise highly enough the quality and innovativeness of the cuisine over both the table d'hote and tasting menu options. The flavours and combinations throughout the latter 8 course dinner were sublime and well proportioned so that one could savour them fully without feeling over indulged with the same to be said for the excellent matching wines. The service is warm and friendly - so that one can experience such fantastic food in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Breakfast I found likewise impressive with a particularly wide range of options. Our room, the Ptarmigan, made up as a twin, was spacious and stylishly renovated, as was its excellent ensuite with large bath and separate shower. It was a further plus that wifi was speedily enabled with the provision of a plug device.. The location of the Hotel on the river is particularly idyllic. This all contributed to a superb stay of good value for such complex and outstanding cuisine.
Thank you for your very positive review I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay so much and of course the food. Ptarmigan is a super room as indeed are all of our rooms now we have refurbished them all to such a high standard. Ptarmigan is one of three with a Jacuzzi bath too as well as separate monsoon shower.
A group of us stayed at Blackaddie for our annual 'Gourmet Hillwalking' weekend. We had the table d'hote on Friday and an eight course tasting menu with matching wines on Saturday; the food was excellent throughout. The breakfasts were also excellent, with an extensive menu. Service at dinner was good on the Saturday, but stretched on the Friday due to the small number of waiting staff.
There is an extensive wine list with a number of expensive French wines; also more reasonably priced bottles from various countries. The hotel does not have an espresso machine, so coffee drinks requiring one are not available.
Our twin room was 'Ptarmigan'; it was spacious, clean and well appointed with a good shower (and an aerated bath).
The Southern Upland Way can be accessed a few hundred meters from the hotel. There are numerous tracks into the Southern Uplands in the vicinity and a number of 'Donalds' to climb.
Thank you for your lovely comments and for being such a great group, very easy to look after. Sorry but we do not go in for an espresso machine, we are after all only small but it seems that the lack of an espresso did not impair your enjoyment.
