We stopped en route to New Year in Dundee and what a wonderful surprise Blackaddie turned out to be!
The service and attention to detail is fantastic, from the moment you set foot through the door. Our room was spotless with a new-looking bathroom equipped with gleaming shower, plenty of luxury toiletries and lots of towels.
But the food is the main event. Perfectly judged, immaculately cooked, beautifully presented: if this was the Michelin guide, I'd be saying it is worth a detour to come here! Our palates were feeling pretty jaded from Christmas feasting, but the savour and excellence of the dinner was like a spa for the appetite. Really first class fare.

Thank you so much for a wonderful review it is really appreciated, all of our rooms are now super some with Jacuzzi baths and of course separate monsoon showers too, some even have underfloor heating in the bathrooms too. The food though as you say is the star attraction, if only Michelin would see that ! - One day.

We have just returned from another excellent stay at the Blackaddie Hotel. This was our fourth visit and we will definitely be going back. Everything about the hotel, restaurant and service is top class but the food is absolutely stunning!

The hotel is located in a quiet picturesque setting in Dumfries so if you are looking for rest and relaxation this is the place for you. Ask Jane, the co-owner, for directions for a lovely walk taking in countryside, the river and waterfalls, oh and a few sheep on route! The hotel itself is very traditional and has a lovely bar with an open fire which was very welcome last week!

I had arranged for my wife to experience the “Chef for a day” offered by Ian McAndrew, co-owner, and an amazing Michelin star quality chef. She had an absolutely wonderful day learning some of the tricks of the trade! She enjoyed the experience so much that she wants to go back again! This is not a ‘play at it’ type of experience but a working kitchen where even though only in the kitchen for a day you are taught to cook foods that are used in the for service after assisting to create that day’s menu. We eat lunch together which my wife had cooked under Ian’s guidance, and it was lovely. An excellent haddock risotto with a freshly cooked parmesan bread roll. She then had a break and went back later to plate up the starter for the evening meal. Yet again Ian surpassed himself with tastes and textures which worked so well together. How on earth he can develop and create unimaginable food combinations and still be so passionate after all these years is truly amazing. We can honestly say that we have not eaten better food anywhere and we have travelled extensively in this country and overseas. Oh and the parsnip ice cream is to die for!!!

Added to the lunch and evening meal, Ian also produces the best breakfasts we have tasted with an extensive choice on the menu and the freshest ingredients. Add to that lovely friendly service from Jane and her staff and you can’t go wrong.

A superb experience from beginning to end. We cannot recommend Blackaddie highly enough and we will be back soon! Thank you Ian and Jane for making our stay so memorable!

The food is outstanding, there were some real surprises, including carrot sorbet! Excellent choice of wines available. Service is friendly, attentive but not overly fussy.

We stayed in the Partridge room and it was extremely comfortable. The room is large and spacious with a sofa, TV, tea making facilities and a nice window seat. There were no noisy distractions and with the heavy curtains, we could have easily slept until lunchtime. The ensuite bathroom is very well appointed and has a separate whirlpool bath and monsoon shower.

The bar has a very welcoming open fire and it was very relaxing to sit and read here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

We spent one night here on a trip through the UK. The food is incredible, we couldn’t believe they don’t have a Michelin star (or two!). In fact, strangely, they only have 2 AA rosettes. We’ve been to many restaurants with stars and their food is certainly in this category.

Our room and bathroom were spacious and fitted to a very high standard. The local village doesn’t have much to to see or do but there are beautiful walks in the stunning local countryside which was what we were hoping for anyway.

We were travelling with our dog and they are also very pet friendly!

Thank you for your review, people that find us by chance are always extremely and pleasantly surprised, especially by the food, yes we too think we deserve that star! Lots of walks in the area especially if you have brought your dog. Next time try visiting Crawick Multiverse it is fantastic.
