We travelled from st Andrews and there were many B roads, very windy roads to get to Sanquar-all up an exciting adventure . Once we arrived, our room was the recently refurbished Mallard room and it was delightful. A very comfy bed, rain forrest shower and a beatiful view of the river -exceeded expectations. Many Thanks

Really glad you enjoyed your stay, while you obviously came to us via the scenic route there are more direct if less picturesque ways of getting to us, we are situated just 300 yards off the A76 a major Scottish highway.

The food was absolutely excellent. It is the first time during my wife's and myself extensive travels, both at home and abroad, that the Chef, Ian McAndrew, visited the dining rom after the meal, and asked how we had enjoyed our meal! The Chef also cooks the breakfast, and his scrambled eggs are wonderful!

The service was excellent, and the casual sitting rooms, with lots of books, and comfy seats were well appreciated.

We cannot wait to return.

James & Helen Cook.

We had booked using an Itison voucher for DBB for one night. At the time of booking I asked to upgrade to a suite. Imagine our surprise when we were shown to the Minister's Pool Lodge. The lodge was spacious, clean and comfortable but the best part was outside the patio doors which lead out to a balcony over the River Nith. The view was amazing. After a walk along the path beside the river, the best was yet to come. Dinner was an amazing experience. Every one of the 5 courses was delicious, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Owner and Chef Ian McAndrew fully deserves the many AA rosettes he has been awarded. The whole experience was delightful and we will definitely return in the future. This luxurious establishment is highly recommended.

Room Tip: A stay in the Minister's Pool lodge is a must

We had planned for years to travel to Scotland to explore our Scottish heritage. Because our relatives came from the Sanquhar area, we chose Blackaddie. It is a lovely country house, comfortable yet modern, with views of sheep grazing near the River Nith. We were excited after we learned of Chef McAndrew's background and accolades and opted for the Gourmet Tasting Menu with wine pairing. It was a fantastic, unforgettable experience. We were first served a bright and refreshing green tomato juice and lamb croquet in the bar. In the dining room as if to celebrate our introduction to Scotland, Chef started with a Cullen Skink paired with a single malt--perfect. This was followed by a ceviche of trout with gin and saffron and mayonnaises; beet with blue cheese; chicken sausage with white asparagus; Parma ham wrapped monkfish. A wonderful surprise was parmesan ice cream topped with a parmesan crisp--so fun and delicious. Aged beef, braised short rib, beef terrine and beef sheet anchored the dinner. A beautifully presented Black Forest Gateaux dessert coupled with a Trocken Beerenauslese completed the evening. In addition to being inventive and artistic, each selection felt thoughtful and personalized. A perfect celebration of our heritage!

Room Tip: Each room is unique. Consider what view or situation suits your preferences.
