Fantastic scenery, has to be witnessed to be appreciated. Great for families and dog walking. Telescope at the top, just remember your 50p :)

we came to see the cosmic garden but its only open one day a year!
So on recomendation we visited this former quarry site which we where told was better than the cosmic garden!
Its one for the new age hippy types (fans of Kate Aldridge) but nonetheless worth a visit as the idea is good but its not worth the entry charge
we where the only people there which was a blessing as i think it would be spoilt if troo many visitors where there to spoil its unwordly atmosphere.
great views from the top
but reluctant to line the coffers of the duke of beccluh!

We had a difficult journey to the site and it was raining when we got there, so not a good start. Good advice from the woman on the entrance, put your walking boots on and go straight to the highest point to get a view of the site. We did as advised and it exceeded all expectations. It is the most fabulous work of art. We pretty much climbed all over it and were constantly amazed by the concept and execution of the pieces of work. I only hope it retains its capacity for surprise. Well worth the horrid journey and even fabulous on a cold and damp day!

We visited in the afternoon after driving up from England, so were all tired. It was also pouring with rain & the sat nav took us to the wrong place initially.... should be a recipe for disaster.

But it wasn't - it was a really fantastic place. My kids (11 & 6) & our dog adored it. It is, after a long weekend, still their favourite place we visited. We walked miles - so be prepared for that if you go! But really it worth the trip!

This is probably in the 'hidden gem' category, mainly due to its location in upper Nithsdale, an area well worth exploring if you are not a afraid of the outdoors and planning your excursions.
It's a big site so take decent footwear and is definitely not a manicured garden - so don't expect immaculate lawn surfaces. The artworks are very personal to its architect, Charles Jencks and its worth paying attention to the details in the stone and how they have been placed.
We were admitted by a very polite and informative member of staff. Facilities are very basic, however a visitor centre is planned.
This is a well worth the trip, if not for a bracing walk and the chance to enjoy the scenery, from the Lowther a Hills and the Afton valley.
