Excellent property of Relais & Chateaux - warm and hospitable, very good service - superb prestige suite and apartment - the grounds and gardens of the Chateau are simply enchanting including the "étang" with the ducks. The cuisine simply amazing with innovation ans style. A place to visit and stay with family.

This gem is not to be missed, and the surrounding countryside is stunning. The area is lushly green, the fields covered with flowers. Photography buffs will not be disappointed.

The artistry, thoughtful service and beautifully balanced flavours of each and every course make this a very special dining experience. Dining in the base of the medieval castle tower added to the theatre of the evening.
The dishes were superb and the wine list exceptionally good. The service was professional yet warm and the extras including a pre-dessert were a delightful surprise and a reflection of Codignat generosity.

Tip - stay overnight. Winding your way up the stairs of the castle to your room is the best way to end the evening.

Well, it is not exactly nowhere, but the Le Puy region is quite obscure. If not for our friends who live nearby, and have a car to drive us there, we would never have the chance to see and experience this unique place. It is an OLD chateau, partly built in the 12th C and partly in the 15th C. The toilet is the highlight (sorry) because it has the slimmest door and probably the oldest flush toilet in the world. One has to sit (sorry ladies) to get relieved, but it is an amazing (quite eerie actually) experience. The slit opening allows one to see the garden and probably an assassin (in the medieval time). The set menu is a mix of tastes and local produce. The only mistake the chef made was that we ordered the fillet of beef rare, but it came out medium well - ruined the taste and texture of the beautiful piece of meat!!! Otherwise, the settings, the service and the covered terrace made our lunch magical and memorable.

Last stayed here 24 years ago so overdue a return, not disappointed, food excellent, suite Christophe Columbe comfortable and roomy in the battlements of the castle. The staff were unfailingly helpful, will not leave it so long to return.
