We are frequent visitors to Castellina-in-Chianti and have been lucky enough to stay at Hotel Salivolpe many times as part of our trips to Italy.

We tend to use Hotel Salivolpi as a good base to enjoy Castellina, and for our trips into Siena and other favourite locations in the area. There are many places in Castellina-in-Chianti to enjoy good coffee, great wine and fine food as well as the good company and hospitality offered by many places in the town. The hotel itself provides a great continental breakfast to set you up for the day of relaxing or visiting and exploring.

If a part of your day is spent relaxing, then Salivolpe offers a lovely garden area to relax and sunbathe with you book, and an uncrowded pool for a casual swim when that Tuscan sun gets too hot.

The staff are always very pleasant, helpful and courteous, and our room is always comfortable and well cleaned and cared for. So, we are always happy to return to Salivolpe, and that’s something we will be doing again next year.

We will continue to recommend Hotel Salivolpe, but selfishly we don’t want to over-emphasise how nice it is, because we want to make sure there’s room for us next Summer !

Dear TJMChippingCampden,
what a joy in reading your lovely words about your stay in our country Hotel. So glad you appreciated our warm hospitality and the way we like to treat our guests, this is our most important aim! We like to make people feel like at home and to wish to come back soon when they leave, as you will do next year!
All our rooms are comfortable and well cared with a little touch of charming rustic style. The lovely garden and the swimming pool give to our guests special moments of relax and positivity.
The position makes our Hotel Salivolpi a strategic starting point for a walk down town to enjoy the nice restaurants, the pretty historical centre or for longer excurtions to the faboulous places that surround us. We really would be honored to welcome you again here at Salivolpi with our greatest smile and a good Chianti wine glass!

Stayed here three days recently and would have been happy to stay longer. Lovely setting with relaxing gardens.
All staff are friendly and helpful (Zico especially, what a wonderful guy).
It is a perfect distance for walking into the enchanting village. Had the best dinner one night at Tre Porti, highly recommend it, and rate it above the Osteria Fonterutoli.
Our room was large and comfortable, though it is a little strange to hear people nextdoor so clearly. Didn't bother us really.

Overall, we were underwhelmed by our stay at Hotel Salivopi, where we spent our first two nights in Italy. I was expecting more based on all of the Tripadvisor reviews that I read.

Pros:

- Incredibly nice and accommodating staff. When we were displeased with our first room, the front desk staff was very kind and was able to relocate us. Staff also helped us with dinner recommendations each night, and their recommendations were excellent.
- Beautiful grounds and gardens.
- Excellent location in walking distance to town.
- Clean rooms.
- Air conditioning.

Cons:

- Our first room was a tiny room in the main building on the top floor. The shower was so small that my husband could barely turn around in it. With two suitcases, barely any room to move around the room. We were able to move to another room which was more spacious.
- Our next room was in a separate building. The walls were so thin between rooms that you could literally hear your neighbors' entire conversations.
- Bed and pillows very hard. We didn't get much sleep.
- Breakfast is an additional 8 euro per person per day and was disappointing. One of the least impressive we had on our trip. They have raw eggs that you have to hard boil yourself in a luke warm egg bath. After putting an egg in and then having to wait 10 minutes for it to "cook," my egg was still raw both days. I don't understand why they couldn't have just hard boiled the eggs ahead of time.

I would chose to stay elsewhere next time.

Dear Mrs Brittany W,
we thank you for your detailed review about your stay with us at the Hotel Salivolpi, in the middle of Chianti region! The hotel, with its inviting garden is the perfect place where you can relax in hot summer days, sipping a glass of Chianti wine from the Bar or having a refreshing swim in the hotel’s swimming pool. Our rooms are well cared and perfectly clean and welcome our guests with its charming details, of course, it is an old Tuscan house and sometimes the rooms seem smaller then a city hotel, but this is our best spot because tourists can live the real Tuscany life. We would like to inform you that some of our rooms are also big: we wish that for the next time, if you change your idea, you can contact us by direct e-mail and we can select the best for your expectations. The staff, as you mentioned, is always friendly and ready to suggest scenography itineraries around the countryside or discovering beautiful cities full of art and history. As usual, we offer a rich restaurants list where you can dine with a 10 % of discount reserved for our guests or free wine tasting to our two wine shops in the centre –and a free lesson about the wine production-. This, together with the possibility of visits to wineries and other activities to complete a perfect holiday with us! Regarding the breakfast, you have a choice from homemade cakes, croissants, bread, jam, honey and cold cuts as ham or Salami and cheese, together with a coffee or a cup of tea made by the waiter on request. As you wrote, we have a special kettle to boil eggs because we want to make sure that guests can decide the right cooking: coque egg (soft-boiled egg) or hard-boiled egg, of course you have to wait the right time. Many of our guests appreciate it.
We really hope you will choose us again for a future visit in Chianti, because we still have a lot to offer you for an enchanting stay in Castellina in Chianti.
Kind regards from all the Staff of Colle Etrusco Salivolpi,
The Manager (Marco Orlandi)

Dear Mr Dan O,
We thank you very much for your lovely Review on TripAdvisor and for recommend our Hotel to other guests! As you wrote, all the rooms are equipped with a tea and coffee service for free, a Minibar with fresh drinks and a big, conformable bed. The design is specially designed to remind the old Tuscan style and most important is the staff: friendly, helpfull and every day with a smile to make your holiday a good Memory when you come back at home. As usual, we recommend to rent a car if you come in the Chianti area because our village is not well connects with Siena and Florence (the two nearest cities).
We remain waiting you for the next time,
Best regards from the Staff.

Simple, lovely and comfortable, this is a great location for exploring Tuscany. You can walk into charming Castellina in Chianti, and are a half hour or so drive from Sienna. Staff is excellent and helpful. A/C was fine, even during a horrible heat wave, and there's a small pool also. Breakfast was honestly just ok. Coffee was serve yourself from a machine (so, office coffee) and the selection seemed a little limited. Still, what there was was fine. Would definitely do it again.
