Nice hotel, good breakfast, nice diner. The bathroom is very outdated, not what you expect with a 5* hotel. Girls behind the desk very friendly. Nice staff during breakfast.
Restaurant at the pool, has a great menu. The only strange thing was they keep the first row of tables reserved. I requested one of the tables, but they refused. No idea why. Nobody showed up, of course the tables were not reserved, they just want to keep it empty for special guests I guess. I think that’s a minus.
But in general a great place, I can recommend.

This is a great hotel, in an incredible place, with the most professional and kindest staff, not only at the reception, not only on the beach, not only at the aperitivo, and not only at the restaurant. The entire staff, should be praised. It is also very important to learn, the history of this hotel, so one can appreciate the setting. Yes, one can say that it can be updated, but actually, it adds to the feeling toward this place. The breakfast is more then satisfactory, it is great. Dinner is very nice, even though a bit on the formal side, but once again it all adds up.

The sitation is idyllic. We stayed for a week in a ' cottage' which is really in a terrace of little rooms in a line with a pretty private terraces in the greenery . The gardens are beautiful and the place is very tranquil. However, the sound proofing between the 'cottages' is poor and if you are unlucky to have noisy neighbours, this would spoil your stay.
On the plus side, the half board menu is fantastic and we had some of the best meals ever. The staff is very professional. Breakfast is copious and varied, but you can wait quite a while for your hot drinks.
A great touch is that when you have picked your sunbed on the beach, your name is put on it for the whole of your stay.
The hotel says it is 'dog friendly'. This is not true - you can take yor dog for 30 euros a day but he is not allowed in the bar, restaurant, public areas, pool area, beach (note though that you could use the public beach at the end of the hotel's private beach.

Room Tip: Be catious about sound proofing in the cottages - ask for one end of terrace to minimise the risk !

We went all out and got room #5 in the villa - a fresco on the ceiling, a canopy bed and two double doors opening to the ocean - you couldn't beat it. The staff was great, the property was beautiful. We had a great time!

This hotel needs a major refurbishment and new management. The abundant staff are from a different age and are not at all userfriendly. For example, at a 5 star hotel if a guest asked the omlet chef for eggs the answer would be "I will make that for you with pleasure and bring it to your table" but at Villa Ottene the response was "I can not make anything for you. You must ask your waiter and not me". This was just an example of the junior staff afriad - forbidden to serve the customers. The senior staff always tried to show that they are "professionals" and the guests are mere novices.

The hotel is not family friendly. They offered no childrens menue and no discounted childrens dishes. No lifeguard. Just not a place to bring kids..

Physically the hotel needs a lot of work. Paint is pealing. Showers are smaller than old phone booths. Alot of work needed.
It is sad since the location has so much potential. Until the entire management and senior staff are replaced and the hotel is re-furbished I would not recommend it.
