I ate here tonight: the house special wild boar "stew" with some rape saltati as a side. Some bread, water and a quarter litre of house red, too. I left happier than I arrived, and my only regret is that I ate alone, unable to share the pleasure with a friend. Amiable service and a homely atmosphere. And good food.

Thank russell w

We came here because of the gluten-free reviews, and found ourselves in a charming restaurant right behind the cathedral, with a wonderful server who guided us through a delicious meal. It had the feeling of home cooked food, prepared with love and care. Grazie!

Me and my wife visited this place for lunch after viewing the reviews on TripAdvisor. That's when the daytime nightmare started.

An old man served us, the only table in the restaurant. After we decided our order, he recommended their house wine - the self-bottled wine without barcode, tasted like non-alcoholic grape juice mixed with tap water.

And then we waited centuries before we can see the signature beef pasta with "grandma" sauce - during which we constantly heard microwave ovens ringing in the kitchen. We prayed it's just the chef cooking something for himself or the old man. Unfortunately not.

We've got a plate of overnight under-seasoned pasta with lots of water flooding the bottom of the plate. During the long, awkward waiting in silence we did not hear anything from the kitchen but the microwave, while we were sitting a foot away from the kitchen.

The pasta tasted like over boiled instant noodles, if you wonder how gross it could be.

Finally when the old men came out of the kitchen and went to toilet (he did that several times in an hour), we peeped into the kitchen just out of curiosity to the mysterious chef. And the truth is always more disappointing: there is no chef, but at least FIVE microwave ovens in the kitchen. All the rest of cookers were as cold as our shocked minds. The urinating old man is THE Chef of Microwave.

We fled out of the restaurant, terrified. Leaving the rest of the dishes uncooked in the microwave.

Good bye.

"Hello. Thank you for your feedback. Actually that day my father was not meant to be the only one in the kitchen but it was necessary for personal reasons. First point: our wine is not 'watered down; it is 'young’ and 12.5% proof, from the Betti winery in the area. We have our guests taste the wine and if they do not like it we change it without any problems. Second point: we use the microwave to heat the empty plates for the food and when necessary to warm side dishes. Third point: we do not pre-cook the pasta. Our pasta is cooked 'express’ and tossed in the frying pan with a little broth, evidently a little too much in your case – we will correct this.
Fourth point: it seems very strange that my father went to the bathroom as many times as you mention. He normally never goes when working or uses the staff bathroom. Perhaps he noticed that the paper towels, etc., were missing. We would be very pleased to have you back as our guests to prove that you can eat very well in our restaurant. Trudy"

I have often been to Prato as a guest professor of the Monash University campus there, and when I am in Prato, I try to go to this restaurant as much as possible. It features authentic Tuscan cuisine (which, unlike a lot of Italian cuisine in general which you find in the States and more Neapolitan, is very spicy, which is why the bread in Tuscany is unsalted, because when you sop up the spicy sauces, you don't want a salty bread). They feature a lot of dishes with organ meats - a stew made with chicken gizzards and liver dumplings, and both are to die for, "da morire".... Everything they offer is delicious, as in, really delicious. You need to plan to spend at least two hours there for a meal - in accordance with the Italian proverb, "at the table you do not grow old" (a tavola non s'invecchia). You can start with a selection of various sausages while you are waiting for the chicken gizzard stew or the liver dumplings. It's a wonderful place.

This family-run restaurant was recommended by the owner at our B&B and we were really pleased we went there. The pasta is delicious and the service was lovely too. Our waitress offered us English menus and translated the specials menu for us. It's a fun, quirky looking restaurant. We sat outside in the colourful 'terrace' bit. I would happily go back here.
