“Breathtakingly Beautiful Ravello”
Reviewed 28 June 2010

My wife and I went to Ravello on our last day while visiting the Amalfi Coast, and it was well worth the trip. We hired a driver (Alex) through Positano Limousine Service to take us from Positano to Ravello, about a one hour incredibly breathtaking drive frought with spectacular views of the dramatic contrast of mountains and sea that is the Amalfi Coast. We definitely recommend this way of travel rather than driving there yourself. The roads are challenging, the parking is scarce, and you really get "the whole package" by going this way. Costs are about 40 euro per hour. Alex also recommended a great family run restaurant for lunch. He also had us lined up to taste some local wines, had we decided to try that as well.
Ravello sits way up on top of the mountain above Amalfi. There is a main square which is typical of most towns in Italy. There are three five star hotels, one right next to the other, each more spectacular and dripping with opulence than the other. Following the path from the square, a spirited 10 to 15 minute walk will bring you to the Villa Cimbrone, an awesome spectacle in its own right.
Sprawling for what seems to be an endless expanse stretch the finely manicured gardens of this masterpiece. The pathway leads to a cliff where you can view the awesome Amalfi Coast. It is so high up that looking straight down induces slight vertigo. The original house has been converted to a hotel. Self guided tours cost 6 euro and should not be missed.

“Wine and Drugs Ravello Italy”
Reviewed 26 June 2010

We purchased wine that included shipping but once back in the states found a $172 charge for shipping. Contacted Rino the owner and he promised to pull the wine shipment and refund the money. He pulled the wine shipment and 30 days later has not refunded the $436 for the wine. The shipping company refunded the shipping charges within 2 days of verifing the shipment was pulled. DO NOT buy here their tactics are at the least deceptive! The salesman Branco is very slick and as we have recently found out a partner. BEWARE. Do not be taken in. Unfortunately, our 3 weeks in Italy was marred by these charlatans.

“Accomodation in Ravello Italy”
Reviewed 2 June 2010

If you are booking accommodation in Ravello and have your own car, make sure that your hotel/apartment has parking facilities. Many apartments state in their ads that free parking is available in the street. You will have a better chance of finding a $100 bill in the street than finding a parking spot. It's a nice town and well worth a visit but the roads are windy. It's about a 45 minute drive to Pompeii.

“An amazing place”
Reviewed 13 August 2009

Ravello is a beautiful Italian town, we went in peak season and got married there. We read reviews before we travelled that it was touristy and too busy, this is certainly not the case. Be warned the neighboruing Amalfi and Positano were far more so.
It surpassed all our expectations, the food was excellent, the culture and views were outstanding. It is not a place for nightlife however it has a buzz at night where Italians socialise in the square, there are very few English etc ( which is partly why we liked it so much), you could not pick a more romanitc relaxed spot.
I would also highly recommend our wedding planner Mario Capuano [--] who was absolutely fantatstic and made Ravello such a welcoming and accessible place for our wedding. If you want a stress free, amazing wedding you cannot go wrong with Mario.

“A Piece of Heaven”
Reviewed 26 July 2009

As a painter looking for solitude and stunning views, nothing compares to the splendid and embracing warmth of the Palazzo Verone in the hamlet of Pontone. Across the valley from Ravello, the Palazzo has ceilings painted with ancient frescoes, and a host who is equally charming and willing to share the beauty of his ancestral home and town. Slightly remote, it's a walking place but worth the workout. Closest place to Heaven, perfect for artists.
