An excellent modern arts museum considering that it's located in a rather small town. I took the audioguide and it was a couple of hours well spent.

MART is a lot bigger and better museum than you would expect in a small town like Rovereto. We visit it a couple times a year to see the changing exhibits. One of the best modern art museums we have found.

Located in Rovereto, Northern Italy, the building designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta with the Roverteo engineer Giulio Andreolli. It's worth seeing the museum building as well as the exhibitions, a large part of the collection is devoted to Futurism.

That in itself merits the trip. And you can bring your kids along (please no holes in their socks:-) ) There is a beautiful in whichthey can play and they will love to. Lots of photography old and modern. And the area has some nice restaurants and patisseries. Try Portineria for example

Maybe I had too many expectations. Maybe it was a rainy day. Maybe a couple of days before I visited the new MUSE in Trento (enjoy it!). But I found MART even ordinary and outdated, similar to many other museums in its "total white" suit, with few works and lot of empty spaces. And I got considerably depressed by inadequate MART cafeteria! I found the only remarkable idea to be the famous square in front of the entrance with the skylight above. I also disliked architect Siza exhibit, because so many drawings without easy-to-read explications come to be definitively obscure and "for artists only". Sorry to say that at the moment, MART doesn't worth the ticket (11€, including Depero's house) IMHO. If you want to appreciate Botta's architecture, please go to see Chiesa del Santo Volto in Turin, that is much more integrated in the surroundings. While, if you want to spend some hours in a REAL art museum, I strongly suggest you to visit Castelvecchio Museum in Verona (only an 1-hour journey from Rovereto), made by Carlo Scarpa in 1958-1974, and then consider which is the modern one......
