If you are interested in this genre, it's more than decent. Many artists not too familiar to Americans like me.

The building by starchitect Mario Botta is quite stunning, particularly the covered entrance court. The collections inside are divided into three sections: (a) contemporary art, with focus on Italian artists; (b) 20th century Italian art; (c) temporary exhibitions. We found (a) and (b) to be of very high quality, while (c) a video installation about the sad felling of a tree, at the time of our visit, was less memorable. The external terrace of the statues provide good views over surrounding mountains and photo ops on a sunny day. A combined ticket for MART and Casa Depero (EUR2 more than just entry to MART) turned out to be an excellent idea.

This museum is awesome. The architecture is already a gift for your eyes! It's good to search for the exhibitions first on the internet site.

The temporary exhibition on WW1 was very varied and well laid out. Nobody is going to like everything of course but the place gives you plenty of space to see the exhibits and the day we went it was very under-populated. Well worth the trip.

MART was a refreshing visit: something so simple and fresh was unexpected in this typical old town below Trento.

The layout of the gallery is clear and clean and the building doesn't interfere with the exhibits: In some cases, like the circular internal glazed mezzanine, it enhances them.

We visited during the exhibition on WW1 and the works were presented in a fascinating, thought-provoking way. Rovereto was in an important, strategic position during that conflict and this is emphasised without being overstated. Local artist Fortunato Depero (a number of his Futurist works are on temporary loan here from their permanent space up the road) has a significant presence but within a context.

Overall, MART is well worth including on a visit to Rovereto, Trento and the surrounding area.
