The pro’s.
If I could review on service alone, I would have given 5 stars. Agostino on reception is an absolute credit to the hotel. When we arrived we were disappointed with the room, we went to reception and initially the man on duty said he needed an hour to look into it. Then Agostino introduced himself, ( I immediately knew the name as he had been my contact on booking.com and had been so helpful and communicative in arranging the booking.) Having been told it would take an hour, Agostino immediately found us another room and said have a look. We decided to stick with the original room as it had a stunning view, but it was very small with one wardrobe for four people. Agostino immediately arranged for another wardrobe to brought from another room. He then helped to arrange several long distance taxi’s for us when we went sightseeing. He couldn’t do enough for us, and along with Adriano and Roberto around the pool they were all exceptional.
The location is fantastic, in walking distance of the train station and some superb local restaurants in Vico. The room was cleaned every day. The breakfast wasn’t to my taste, but had enough choice to get by- and the coffee is lovely.
Con’s.
They’re are parts of the hotel that are quite art deco and that’s lovely because of the style and setting of the building- but they’re other parts of the hotel that are just old and in disrepair. The pool steps are loose. The hallway carpets are frayed in places and need replacing. Our room was small and quite dated. (But did have a stunning view) The sink plug didn’t work, (reception just took it out) The shower kept slipping down the pole as the grip had worn out. The bedroom furniture has seen better days. This didn’t get in the way of having a great time, but if you pay for 4 star it’s the details and finish that make it so.
In summary.
Exceptional service- easily 5 Star.
Hotel is ok overall but only 3 star
Therefore I gave it 4 stars as the staff make up for it.
