Underwhelmed

Review of Aequa Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Jul 2024
Like the last review we too were underwhelmed but we made the most of our short stay.
Positives : the location (lovely village and close to station), the pool is fantastic, the beds are super comfy and close to good restaurants (tito’s across the road v good)
Negatives: the common areas are dirty, unvacuumed and not hygienic; the entire hotel is in need of restoration and love; the breakfast didn’t offer enough hot options and did not feel 4* at all.
Sadly did not feel we got value for money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay with us. We appreciate both your positive comments and your constructive criticism.

We're glad to hear that you enjoyed our location, the comfort of our beds, and the quality of the nearby restaurants, especially Tito's. It's also great to know that our pool met your expectations.

However, we are truly sorry to learn that other aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Cleanliness is a top priority for us, and we are disappointed to hear about the issues you encountered in the common areas. We will address this immediately with our housekeeping team to ensure improvements are made.

We acknowledge that some areas of our hotel may need attention and updates. Please be assured that we are actively working on plans for renovations to enhance the overall guest experience.

Regarding breakfast, we are sorry that it did not meet your standards. We are reviewing our menu to include more hot options and ensure it aligns with the quality expected from a 4-star establishment.

We value your feedback as it helps us improve our services. We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future so we can provide you with a better experience.

Kind regards,

Aequa Hotel Staff

Reviewed 24 July 2024

We recently had a stay at this hotel, which is advertised as having a 4-star rating (how is that even possible???) and good reviews.

Outdated Facilities: The hotel is extremely old and clearly in need of significant renovations.

Unpleasant Odor: There was a strong, unpleasant smell throughout the hotel, including our room, which made our stay very uncomfortable.

Lack of Cleanliness: The cleanliness was below standard.

Bathroom Mold: The bathroom had mold everywhere, which is unacceptable and unhygienic.

Dirty Corridors: The carpeted corridor was not vacuumed even once during our 3-day stay and was full of crumbs, threads, and other debris.

Breakfast: The breakfast lacked hot food options, though there were some items available to eat.

Mini Bar Charges: The minibar included two bottles of water, two beers, and two cans of Coca-Cola, with no prices listed. This usually suggests the items are complimentary, but we were charged 1.50 EUR for a small bottle of water upon checkout.

Double Payment Issue: If you book through Booking.com (which guarantees the room rate), be aware that the hotel might charge you again upon check out. Make sure you have extra money available as your Booking.com payment may be held and you’ll need to pay the hotel directly.

This hotel is suitable only for the most undemanding guests.
We have traveled to Italy multiple times and stayed in various, much cheaper hotels, but this was by far the worst experience we've had.

On the positive side, the hotel has a good location, friendly staff, and offers parking for 15 EUR per day.

Given these issues, it’s hard to believe that this hotel has managed to maintain a 4-star rating. We recommend it only for those who absolutely need a pool; otherwise, we suggest avoiding this hotel.

Dear Milda,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We deeply regret to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we apologize for any inconvenience you encountered.

We take your comments about the outdated facilities, unpleasant odor, and cleanliness issues very seriously. Please rest assured that we are addressing these concerns with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure improvements are made promptly.

Regarding the mold in the bathroom and the cleanliness of the hallways, we acknowledge that this is unacceptable. We are taking immediate steps to rectify these issues and ensure our cleaning standards are upheld consistently throughout the hotel.

We are sorry to hear that our breakfast selection did not meet your expectations and will review our offerings to include more hot food options. Additionally, we apologize for any confusion regarding the minibar pricing. We will make sure that prices are clearly displayed to avoid any misunderstandings in the future.

We also regret any inconvenience caused by the double payment issue you experienced. This is not our standard practice, and we will investigate this matter thoroughly to prevent it from happening again.

On a positive note, we are pleased that you found our location convenient, our staff friendly, and appreciated the parking facilities.

On the recommendation of friends, who have been visiting Hotel Aequa for many years, my sister and I booked 6 nights with a picture perfect seaside view room overlooking the Gulf of Naples with Mt. Vesuvius in the distance. Giacomo was great at communicating with me before the trip, booked a car for me to transport us from Naples Airport, and booked us excursions to Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, Positano, and Amalfi. We also enjoyed dinner there, and breakfasts were a giant buffet of so many delicious choices. We also enjoyed lounging by the beautiful pool. La dolce vida!

The staff here are fantastic and we enjoyed our 9 day stay here very much. The hotel team are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very clean and room staff do an immaculate job each day. Giacomo can also book tours and car hire, and helped us with any queries we had. We had a fantastic view of Vesuvius and the bay of Naples from our balcony.
There is a great variety of food for breakfast and the hotel is well place for exploring the town and very convenient for the train station too. We found an amazing bakery close to the hotel called
Andrea and Gianni pasticceria.
Our 3 kids 14,10,8 all enjoyed the pool area which is very well maintained and clean. The hotel is very child friendly.
Many thanks to Giacomo and his hard working team.
Grazie mille!

The pro’s.

If I could review on service alone, I would have given 5 stars. Agostino on reception is an absolute credit to the hotel. When we arrived we were disappointed with the room, we went to reception and initially the man on duty said he needed an hour to look into it. Then Agostino introduced himself, ( I immediately knew the name as he had been my contact on booking.com and had been so helpful and communicative in arranging the booking.) Having been told it would take an hour, Agostino immediately found us another room and said have a look. We decided to stick with the original room as it had a stunning view, but it was very small with one wardrobe for four people. Agostino immediately arranged for another wardrobe to brought from another room. He then helped to arrange several long distance taxi’s for us when we went sightseeing. He couldn’t do enough for us, and along with Adriano and Roberto around the pool they were all exceptional.

The location is fantastic, in walking distance of the train station and some superb local restaurants in Vico. The room was cleaned every day. The breakfast wasn’t to my taste, but had enough choice to get by- and the coffee is lovely.

Con’s.

They’re are parts of the hotel that are quite art deco and that’s lovely because of the style and setting of the building- but they’re other parts of the hotel that are just old and in disrepair. The pool steps are loose. The hallway carpets are frayed in places and need replacing. Our room was small and quite dated. (But did have a stunning view) The sink plug didn’t work, (reception just took it out) The shower kept slipping down the pole as the grip had worn out. The bedroom furniture has seen better days. This didn’t get in the way of having a great time, but if you pay for 4 star it’s the details and finish that make it so.

In summary.

Exceptional service- easily 5 Star.

Hotel is ok overall but only 3 star

Therefore I gave it 4 stars as the staff make up for it.
