I've visited Hotel Mary on at least 6 previous occasions, but each of those was as the organiser of a school trip. On this occasion, I visited with my family and the whole experience was even better than expected. Sampling the a la carte for the first time revealed that the chefs can produce some really good food, and plenty of it. If you have a sea view room you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view where you can watch the sun setting over Ischia and watch and listen to the port of Seiano come alive each morning. The rooms have adequate furnishings and are kept spotlessly clean. Some customers mention the noise if doors are slammed or unlocked noisily; that's true but if people are sensitive and turn the locks carefully then it shouldn't be an issue.....

The hotel has access to an area on the beach. Yes, there are lots of steps down to it, but once there you get a sun lounger and there's a cafe selling drinks and ice creams at really good prices. If you have a car, the hotel will sort parking for you. However, what really makes this hotel is the staff. They are so friendly, helpful and focused in their desire to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of their guests.

Vico itself is a small town but has a growing number of restaurants catering to the tourist trade, including a couple of gelato cafes that my children really appreciated. It is really well positioned if you want to use public transport to get around and although we had a car for the week we used the train to get to Pompeii and Sorrento. The port of Seiano below the hotel also has a ferry service to Capri (leaves at 8am, returns at 6pm).

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra for a sea view if that is within your budget.

All staff really friendly and helpful, especially francesco on reception and cleaning lady. Beach is small but lovely, 240 steps kept us Fit! Food was excellent sitting on restaurant balcony with beautiful sunset, really is the hotels usp. Lovely pool and terrace. Vico equence is perfectly positioned for visiting sorrento, pompei and vesuvius. Only slight negative our family room had limited storage and no balcony.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room as road very busy.

Vico Equense is a small town 50 min away from Napoli and 10 min away from Sorrento by train. Railway station is 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
Old part of the town and Hotel Mary are beautifully situated on top of abrupt cliffs so around there are plenty view points.
Town itself has very few restaurants markets etc, but is quiet, has two small harbours with public beach and is a good option for a base camp for all the attractions from Napoli to Amalfi.
Hotel Mary,
Situated on cliff with a beautiful view to the golf.
Front view is satisfactory but the main road is passing under the balconies and the traffic never stops.
Hotel has a private small beach with black sand, access being easier on the way down. Against a small fee there is the hotel's shuttle bus.
Hotel's restaurant in very nice, meals are ok.
There is a clean swimming pool large enough.
The room is spartan, not four stars.
Beds are ordinary, cupboard is small, totally insufficient, bathroom is ok but with a uncomfortable shower.
The room is rather small and the floor is covered with tiles.
Doors if slammed are very noisy.
However there are: mini fridge, AC, flat TV, bide in the bathroom, safe box and a sufficient number of sockets.
Also each room has a large balcony.
Rooms are cleaned daily and overall cleaness is very good.
All staff are excellent; receptionists are very nice and helpful, restaurants people make you feel great, cleaning staff very professional.
Even if there were some downsides was good for us to choose Vico and Hotel Mary and in the beauties from the region, our holiday it was awesome.

Not sure in the hotel since I didn't stay there but I can tell you the pizza they make is really good.
We had six 1 meter pizzas and they were all amazing.
If your in town and looking for great pizza it's a must.

We booked on hotel site a 4 bed room. When we arrived we received a room without balcony, no place to put slips for swimming to dray. All other room have balcony but this 4 bed rooms didnt. It was varry upsetting because i would have preferred to know from the begining. I might be booked other room or other 2 bed rooms or maybe i would have chosen another hotel, because on the site picture of the room was with balcony and with wiew of the sea. The hotel is old with old classic key acces (no card acces), he has his own pool outside. The pool is great. They give you acces to a private beach, but the beach is with stones without sand. If you dont know to swim is verry dificult to enter in sea. Water of sea in this place is deep. On 3 meters of the beach the depth of the water exceeds 2 meters, is a verry steep entry in to the water. South of Italy western coast is not a place for family with kids about the see. Good place for familys is in north of Italy eastern coast.
