Quirky boutique hotel in a great location, though expensive for what it was

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Sept 2018
This beautiful old house sits in its own grounds with parking spaces. Our room was quirky, with traditional decoration and furniture, but it was all in good order and clean. We ate breakfast outside in the garden, which on a sunny September day was a nice treat.

Our only complaint would be the cheap bed frame which had obviously given way under a previous occupant, so as soon as we sat on the bed, it gave way again. We fixed it, but came close to asking for another room.

Room was expensive for what it was.

Quiet small hotel in centre of city, Chateau may give the wrong impression as it only has a few rooms. Room was a reasonable size and furnished in a 'period' way, but comfortable. Run by very friendly husband and wife and in the centre of this small, charming city. No restaurant but restaurants a short stroll away, breakfast at the hotel was delightful and served on the patio (bright sunny morning) although somewhat expensive

Although the beautiful old mansion has been updated in lush style and vibrant colors, the effect is spoiled by the smell of cigarette smoke pervading the building. Although there were "no smoking" signs everywhere, the noxious odor intruded 24 hours a day. We were inexplicably placed in a room on the top floor--we are older and there was no elevator; and some nights we were the only guests there. We also agreed with the reviewer who said that the breakfast is not worth the price, and declined it after our first day's stay. Yet we were still charged for it and were treated with great resentment when we requested reimbursement. Despite its great location and safe parking for our car (subject to the host's rules, of course), we would not choose to stay there again should we return to Agen.

The hotel is in a good location and could be a beautiful building. The decor is not very restful and it needs updating, but the main issue was that the hotel did not feel at all welcoming. There are lots of strict instructions everywhere and as guests we felt that we were not trusted. We would not recommend the breakfast was very simple and did not reflect the high price.

Very clean and straight in the middle of the town of Agen.

A bit hard to find but well worth the search!
Old (French) fashioned with a twist!

This is a splendid old family home and small hotel set in a great location in the middle of Agen and in many respects it is still in a former century. The rooms are spacious and comfortable enough (apart from a rather lumpy mattress) and seem to be furnished and decorated in the deep past. Secure parking behind locked gates unless you wish to leave early in the morning in which case you have to put your car in the street! It was certainly quirky but we found it fun even with all the instructions. We did take exception to a simple breakfast, which was quite acceptable in itself, but inordinately expensive at €14 per head for what was on offer. But for the somewhat high room price compared to other more superior and cheaper places on our trip we would certainly consider staying again.
