The Hotel de Paris is an old school French provincial hotel with superb rooms a good restaurant, a pool and secure parking. It is ideally located in the centre of the historic town of Moulins and the staff are both helpful and friendly. The room are well decorated, clean and very quiet.

A quiet, pleasant and newly refurbished hotel. Comfortable large room in the new wing. Food in the 'bistro' restuarant was some of the best I have had in an long time. There is a 'Gastro' restuarant as well but I'm told the same chef runs both. The problem was the service: for long periods of time no staff in the restuarant: I had to go to reception to get pepper! When present, off hand, or perhaps just not properly trained.

The hotel itself is in old, stylish buildings, quietly situated, close to and within easy walking distance of the centre of Moulins, itself a pleasant, quirky town. Ideal for a quick visit, such as ours, to discover a new bit of France.

A pity about the service because this could be a very good hotel! Keep trying!

Conveniently situated within an easy walk of all the main attactions of this pleasing town, a lot of money has been spent refurbishing this hotel to a very high standard. We had a very pleasant and well appointed room- 408 - in the quiet annex. One of the members of staff at reception was great - competent and welcoming. Pity that most of the others during our stay were not as competent eg unable to confirm whether our taxi had been ordered, unable to prepare a bill etc. We got the idea that this was a new staff team, anxious to please but hadn't had the necessary training. We had a very good meal in the bistro, including a marvellous Veloute Dubarry and a scollop risotto. OK - accidents do happen, such as a piece of plastic wrapping some 6" x 1/4" in the salad but one does at least expect an apology. And we had to attract the attention of a reception staff member to get salt and pepper as there was no member of staff in dining area when needed. This is not what one expects from a luxury hotel. We did draw these shortcomings to the attention of the patron the next day and he was mortified. It was evident that he had called a staff meeting as the attention of staff did improve thereafter. But not in the breakfast self-service area - a chaotically organised little den that could only accommodate about three people at max. with slow staff. At 7.45 the cold congealed scambled egg and tepid overcooked bacon were not appetising. However the array of patisserie, fruits was exceptional. I hope the owner can get this place ticking soon or I fear the shortcomings will put folk off.

Room Tip: Newly furbished rooms 400 upwards in separate block good and quiet,

If arriving by car, drop off passenger at hotel entrance, request parking door opening; check in before unloading, some rooms direct access to parking, other in main hotel building.
Room, bathroom and fixtures all very good and modern, complete with electrically operated window blinds for example.
    Hotel bar has minimal atmosphere.
Hotel "everyday" restaurant (it has a fine dining option with limited opening days and times) is very good, with good menu choices, good service, and reasonable prices. (Caveat here - if ordering a glass of wine, be sure to check that a full bottle has not been charged; our second visit to this hotel, and the same thing happened on both occasions . . and this time I did not spot it until checking billing on return home).
Breakfast arrangements are, at best, chaotic in terms of layout, space, and consistency of offerings. More than two/three people in the buffet area is, well, chaotic. (This area remains unchanged for at least the past two years!)
Good central location, and overall a good hotel - but attention to the breakfast area would be a distinct improvement.

Room Tip: Request room overlooking car park - otherwise you will have no view and traffic noise.

We originally booked another hotel in Moulins. But when we arrived there had been a mix up and for the second of our 2 nights the hotel was booked. So the manger had booked us in to the Hotel de Paris.
Firstly the good points. There is a large outside secure car park to the rear of the per hotel. The cost is 8 Euros per day which is reasonable. Walking from the car park there is an outside small swimming pool and lounge area. In summer I can imagine this would be wonderful. Unfortunately there was a bad smell in the corridor to the reception.
The main hotel is very historic. Some people say out dated, but its clean, old and different. The room is not particular large, but again clean, quiet and modern. WiFi is free and easy to log on to with several devices.
The hotel is about 5 - 10 minuets walk from the main centre with shops, bars and restaurants.
Breakfast is 16 Euro per person. There is a selection of hot and cold choices, and the young waitress working there was very pleasant and helpful.
Now the bad point. Reception and the check in sets the scene for a hotel. Unfortunately the 2 'ice maidens' behind reception made us feel unwelcome! I travel the world for my work and stay in many hotels. I have not seen this cold reception now for many years. Shame. It's a great hotel a part from this. A welcome, smile and some advice is not too much to ask for is it?
