After a 6 hour drive from Cherbourg we arrived at Le Letty after a disastrous journey and a stopover site hiccup, a day early. As the site was full, reception helped us out by allowing us to stay in the late arrivals car park and use the onsite facilities for free. Next morning our pitch was vacant and we were able to get on at 9am.
We pitched in Les Sternes, with a spectacular view of the beach and close to amenities. We did have a bit of trouble getting onto the pitch due to the hedges, but our Dutch neighbours helped us push on.
Our nearest amenities block was a little dated, but actually perfect. Lots of the other campers were drawn to the more modern block in the opposite direction, so left the less attractive block quieter. Showers were powerful and hot and I never once waited considering the amount of people camping. It was also pretty clean and you regularly saw staff cleaning. We took our French toilet bag, containing toilet paper and hand gel as it was very French with the toilet roll outside and no soap. They seem to be working on that though as other blocks did have that.
The kids loved the pool, which we used daily. The indoor pool was ideal for the cooler days. You couldn't always get a sunbed, but that was mainly due to greedy families hogging loads of beds that they weren't all using.
The beach was as described by other reviewers - course sand, like tiny shingle. Beach shoes are a must! There is a permanent current, but once the tide goes out, the beach is perfect for rock pooling. Crabs galore so don't forget nets. The water is crystal clear and full of fish and interesting things.
We took our bikes with us and hardly used our car. Benodet is a quick bike ride from the site entrance and Carrefour a little further. We rode there most days to buy our food.
Super U and Lidl can be found a few miles away by car in the Quimper direction and LeClerc Hypermarket in Fousenant, the next little town. There's also Decathlon at Quimper or Concarneau if you want to buy beach stuff or a Paddleboard if you feel left out.
The site is busy and a little noisy until after 11pm, but we went with the flow and let the kids stay up late and sleep in. Maybe ear plugs would be helpful if you are a light sleeper.
Although we paid more for staying at Le Letty than we would have liked, we saved money by having so much to do on site, rather than going out to find entertainment. There are lots of English families on site and we made some lovely Dutch friends.
The playpark is a little tired and right at the top of the park, so not very child friendly. They could do with a more Central park, so the kids can make friends.
We enjoyed trips out to Quimper and its beautiful cobbled streets and Concarneau, but Concarneau was really busy due to the Blue Nets Festival. The walled old town was really picturesque and we found free parking at the station. We also cycled around Benodet and it's marina, following a very nice cycle track.
The onsite shop had lots of food choice and beach stuff if you'd forgotten anything, but as expected a little pricey. Snack bar was also reasonable and good portions.
We stayed the last 2 weeks in August and although it was heaving when we arrived the site emptied towards the end of our visit and we would probably visit as late as possible next year.
We definitely be back.
