Writing this review from the dining patio of Le Club de Cavaliere, as we get ready to depart after a 7-night stay. This 37-room property is a special secret getaway, not well known to many Canadians or Americans, but where the French and Germans know and go to get away. At the splendid core of this area of the South of France is preservation. Preserve the landscape, the sea and ensure it’s special for generations to come. On the drive from Marseille airport to the hotel, I ask our driver, "When you buy your food, how much is organic?" He replies, “Organic? What is that? If you mean natural, well everything is natural.” And that is at the essence of the charm of this place and this property. Old school charm and values with the most up-to-date room and pleasure amenities. Explicitly clean, safe, high quality food, first class service. There is no snacking on convenience food here. My 12-year-old son and I arrived for one week after his educational trip with schoolmates in Paris, Normandy and Vimy Ridge. We came upon the resort property because it is Relais & Chateaux and our familiarity with Relais & Chateaux in Canada, at the experience-spectacular, Sonora Resort. And this Relais & Chateaux property did not disappoint. Club de Cavaliere, like Sonora Resort, is Relais and Chateaux at its finest. The property is five star and meets every expectation. And the location is superb. Situated right on the Mediterranean Sea, with private beach lounges and plenty of water sports if you choose. My son and I snorkeled, swam every day, took a boat ride to protected bays and even went parasailing. The boats coming to rest outside the property at all hours of the day are boat eye candy, as this is a place where the finest travelers in Europe come to swim, sea and play. But at the same time, it is not pretentious; with the owners of the property and staff pleasant and always aiming to please. Speaking English only, is not of issue. The staff always seem to come in twos, from concierge to dining and even housekeeping, the staff-guest ratio here is ultra-impressive. For most Canadians, with the exchange rate of the Euro, this is a bucket list trip. But if you wish to travel to a place with guaranteed beautiful rooms, sea views, friendly and always willing to accommodate staff and service - in the pristine and preserved South of France - then make your way here. When you come to this place you have not a care in the world and everything is perfection.
