Jan and Gisela were wonderful hosts. We stayed in Duren to go on a tour of WWII locations planned for children and grandchildren of vets. We chose the Mariaweiler Hof because of its high value according to TripAdvisor -- of course!
The service is the most memorable thing about the hotel. We came back late from Cologne one night to find the hotel restaurant had just closed and the chef was on his way out. The staff asked him if he would stay to cook for us and he readily agreed. By the way, the food is very good and so plentiful. We wanted to go on a ferry trip down the Rhine. Gisela got on the phone and arranged everything. A taxi driver met us at the lobby to take us to the train station. He came in with us to show us how to buy the train tickets. Gisela told us which stop to use in Cologne and gave us a walking map to the wharf. She even knew how long it would take us to walk between the train and the ferry. She suggested we get off at Linz. Such a pretty place. The right people make a trip memorable!More
