We stayed here for one night. We were welcomed by a lovely female trainee who did an efficient check in and provided us with all the information we needed. We received a room on the 4th floor (lift until 3rd and then stairs) which was modern, large and had lake views (Rm 415). The bathroom had nice aminities and we loved the bathsalts. Just be carefull with the beam on one side of the bed, that you don't hit it with your head. A little welcome note, water and an manderin for each as a welcome, nice.
Due to COVID was the use of the wellness only by reservation. The wellness was private for us to use for 45 minutes - steamroom, kneipp baths with bathsalts, dry sauna and relax beds. A total plus and in very good upkeep. It is on the other side of the street (you need to cross the street) which in a bathrobe in January is a bit cold - but you can warm up in the sauna.
We had a mulled wine in the wintergarden, which is lovely by the lake. Staff were friendly, and some open fires to keep warm.
Breakfast buffet provided some nice jams and cheeses, together with the usual items. Bread options were a bit basic hotel breakfast, but the cheeses and jams made up for that.
All in all a great stay, happy to return!

We've stayed at the Sonne twice now with a 2 year gap - both times were excellent so great to be able to rely on consistent quality and excellent service.

The location is perfect - 13 mins on the train to the bustle of central Zürich yet far enough away to enjoy the tranquility of beautiful lake sunsets - you can even hop on the boat to town if you want.

We'll always stay here when we visit the area -it's surprisingly affordable luxury, especially for Zurich

Room tip: room 414 is brilliant for families of 4 - no lake view but excellent value for the size

The hotel was really good for a family stay since the rooms were really large and had a nice pullout sofa for the kids to sleep on.

The neighbourhood is really walkable and there is a great walkway along the lake. A short three minute walk away is also a nice playground. There are loads of great restaurants in the area.

The one thing that I would definitely check on is whether there is a wedding at the hotel during your stay. During our stay, there was a wedding on and music was playing until 3 AM. It all ended with the Bohemian Rapsody. Since management knew about this, it would have been nice for them to be proactive and put the guests who are not attending the wedding in rooms far away from the wedding venue. Sadly, this was not the case.

Room tip: Ask to be put in a room far away from the wedding venue.

We stayed in room 140 on the 2nd floor - not in the main building. The only one with airconditioning and a decent terrace. We decided to splash out (expensive room) because we also had our Collie dog with us.

The negatives of this room: the lift only goes to the 1st floor and then you have to go up a flight of steps. Not so good when you have luggage to carry. The dog also had a slight problem with the stairs because you could see down below them. I am accustomed to having a kettle, tea and coffee maker in the room, especially for the prices you pay. Not the case here. You pay quite a lot to have your dog with you, but there was not even a dog bowl in the room or on the terrace. The wardrobes are much too small for a longer stay for 2 people (unless you take less clothes with you and have them washed daily). You cannot hang a full-lengthed dress up in the wardrobe as this is built into the roof eaves (not high enough) . You must hang it on the coat hook on the wall. We were only there for 2 nights so it was fine for us.

The positives of the room: spacious with a full bathroom (bathtub with showerhead) amenities included (shampoo, etc.). I like a full bath. Wonderfully large terrace with cast iron table + 4 matching chairs in the shade (soft seat covers in one of the drawers in the room), plus 2 comfortable loungers for relaxing. Fabulous unabridged view of the lake from the terrace. Küsnacht pier directly in front of the hotel. Clean and tidy room.

Staff: the staff were all very friendly and helpful. A special thank you for the help received at the reception (plug adapters). Breakfast staff were also fast to serve.

Breakfast: a basic buffet breakfast. Don't expect too much.I guess that how you personally feel about breakfast will depend on what you are accustomed to. We found it to be adequate for our needs.

Snackbar: self-service was fine and food was good.

Restaurant: we did not use so we cannot comment.

Plenty of walks for the dog along the lake. There are also playgrounds for young children, grassy areas to relax and plenty of places for dogs and children to take a dip (very crowded at the weekends).

All in all a very pleasant experience and one I can definitley recommend.

Dear Rosie
Thank you for your long feedback. The hotel is a historic landmark and some of the subjects you mentioned are because of that. (Big wardrobes and watter kettle f.ex). Regarding the breakfast buffet we do have not the biggest choice as many of the large hotels but everything is cooled down and very important for us the quality of the products is high standard.
(bio egss, cheese from Zurich etc). We do think that good products can make up with a large variety.
Most of our guests only stay for 1 or 2 nights, so many of them don't even unpack their suitcases.
Looling forward to welcoming you back maybe also in a room with a larger wardrobe.

This was our second stay at the Romantik Seehotel in Kusnacht. Our first was in 2018. We decided to stay there again based on the great visit we had. And again we were thoroughly pleased with our time there. The location is beautiful and it is so convenient for visits to Zurich by train or by boat from the hotel dock.
The Management Team at the front desk are top notch and they will assist you in solving your issues. The restaurant staff are very polite and professional and they were very accommodating to our English language and our questions about the menu.
We will visit them again on our next visit to Switzerland.
