I ended up here by accident because I was on my way to Limon from Arenal and needed somewhere to stay in the middle.

We got there at night and was so happy to be received by Alex. It was pouring rain but the rooms we got were clean and cozy. We were the only ones on the Posada that day and the family made us an incredible home made breakfast and dinner with homemade banana bread that was amazing.

We became good friends and enjoyed two day of just enjoying the hammock and swing. Alex is extremely knowledgable of Costa Rica and nature. It would be amazing to do a tour with him or his son in nature. Unfortunately the weather didn't permit it.

If you want to get a feel for the real Costa Rican experience and meet a great icon of the birdwatching world then this is your place to stay.

Room Tip: All cabins looked pretty private and big.

Posada Andrea Christina is a most wonderful place to stay. My husband and I spent three nights there and wished it had been many more. Alex Martinez is the best host ever. Each morning he prepares breakfast of eggs, fruit and his home made bread and jam. He feeds the birds by the dining spot so that there is a great show of colourful birds to entertain you while you eat. The cabins are large and very homey and comfortable. The grounds are a peaceful oasis. Alex can also provide activities such as bird watching or white water rafting with his son, Kevin. Anything you need to know or any help you need, it will be provided. We were very sorry to leave and on our next trip, Posada Andrea Christina will be our first stop!

We found Alex Martinez by chance if you like, when a planned activity fell through and forced us to alter our plans. Alex was recommended to us and after a phone call agreed to take us out birdwatching the following morning. We had a super mornings birding capturing some memorable images of macaws, toucans and a whole host of other species. Following this we had coffee at Alex's place which is also a great venue for watching birds whilst sat in the garden. If and when i return to Costa rica, this chap will be my first contact if I want to undertake a birding tour. I can't comment on the accommodation but I'd love to stay here, i could spend all day in the garden!

Room Tip: Don't forget your binoculars and the best telephoto lens that you possess

Alex and his family really make you feel welcome and at home. Alex is full of information about the area and all of Costa Rica. He and his family make you feel welcome and at home. The breakfast is very good. The setting is a small natural second growth location where many birds come including Green Macaws. After sunset the frogs come out. Comfortable rooms with mosquito nets and good showers with hot water. Form here you can go to La Selva, Rafting on the river etc.

This is a special place to stay. Birds and other wildlife are everywhere and you get an excellent opportunity to take photos as the birds come to eat the fruit which is put out for them. The accommodation is quite individual mostly consisting of rooms in cabins in the grounds but there is also a tree house which offers lovely views from the balcony. My room was spacious and felt cosy even when the rain was hammering down! Alex is a great host. His home made bread is wonderful and the jam was the best on the trip! Breakfast could last all morning! We also went to Alex's rehabilitation centre where injured or abused animals and birds are nursed back to life to be set free.

Room Tip: Apart from the tree house the rooms were on the ground floor and offered plenty of space-ideal for families too.
