the rooms at this hotel are all beautiful. Each room has its own color-theme. Also there is one room for the honeymoon, a beautiful room in a tower. The surroundings is also beautiful. There is a 1 hour walk available which guides you through the surroundings of this place. The owner has placed a lot of signs with trees and flowers so can see what is it. The food is great. We had a barbeque which was complete! The owner is very nice and the staff is great!
The rooms have large beds is beautiful authentic houses. All rooms are very clean.

Honestly, this was our best hotel in 15 days Costa Rica. Nice room, really good food (makes sense, the boss is Belgian), friendly staff and especially: a unique location. At the borders of the Braulio Carillo National Park, a rough rainforest close to San José, we walked for more than half an hour in the huge domain of the hotel. Afterwards, the boss told us that you can spot monkeys and caymans in the garden. And he wasn't lying: at breakfast, there was a cayman sunbathing at the other side of the small river. 5 min later, we saw some tucans in the trees.
So for nature lovers, this is a really good place to stop by on the way to or coming from San José. A quiet place, away from the touristic headlines of Costa Rica.

Went here in June 2011 with husband and 14-year old daughter. We stayed here the night before we went to Rara Avis and the night that we returned from Rara Avis. (Rara Avis is the rainforest eco-lodge in the Braulio Carrillo National Park) It takes about 2 hours to get here from the San Jose Airport. The lodge is set on a beautiful piece of property (I guess it's a river island because you cross a tiny bridge to get to it.) You feel like you are staying at your long lost Costa Rican cousin's hacienda. One side of the property is rainforest with howler monkeys, frog, caymans in the river, etc and the other side has horses and pastures. There is a swimming pool, hiking trails, wifi in small restaurant, and a friendly dog named "Scott". The owner, Jean Pierre, is super nice and even took us in his own car to the Rara Avis office in Las Horquetas! He is from Belgium and speaks Spanish, English, French and Dutch (or is it German?) Since we stayed here upon arrival and return, we stayed on two different nights in two different rooms. I especially like the "indigenous people" room, I think it is called. The bathrooms, especially, are beautifully decorated. The rooms don't have air-conditioning but there is an enormous fan right over your bed. The food is good but the breakfast is not included in the rate. This is a great location to stay if you are going to Rara Avis, rafting on the Sarapiqui River, or on your way to catch a boat to Tortuguero National Park (from San Jose Airport). Jeanne Pierre, can set up tours of all kinds for you. Great family location because there is so much to do right on the property. I would definitely stay here again when in that part of Costa Rica!

The hotel, a former hacienda, is located in a wonderful domain with beautiful flowers and trees. It is an area with rivers, open spaces in the forest and also dense forest. Therefore you have a good view on all species in this area.
The reception brought us a warm welcome, clear explanation of the premises and possible trips to be made. We made a choice from the wide array of opportunities and picked a hike in the Tirimbini Resereve, a visit of a butterfly garden, an Indian Museum and Aereal Tram. Immediate arrangement of our desired trips was made including a hand-drawn map to get there. In short: a perfect place to be.
The restaurant is located on a small lagoon were you can see alligators, monkeys, hummingbirds, toucans, butterflies and a lot of other species at the same time. This all while being served a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The hacienda is carefully expanding, with respect to the old colonial history. We had a new build house which was very spacey, clean and had a lot of character.

Jean Pierre, Ana and their staff have given us a experience we will like to remember.

My friend and I stayed here for two nights just after we arrived in Costa Rica for our round trip.
It is relatively close to the airport, with many things around there to do, especially wild water rafting. We stayed in a clean and spacious room, that had a nice firm bed, a fan, a safe and a hot shower. Other then that there are no television, aircon or fridge, (if you are in a need for those things), hence basic but clean rooms.
In the evening you are able to use the restaurant with pretty good meals, provided the fact you like to eat one of the two menu's that are offered that day.
The breakfast is somewhat on the small size and can be done more generous in our opinion.
You need a car to stay here, since there is nothing in walking distance other the hacienda.

Separate to the good service and the intimate atmosphere we find it quite expensive (room rate USD 120 ex breakfast) compared to similar hotels we stayed in. The (Belgium) owner is nice and provides a lot of information, though he can be a bit too commercial.
