My wife and I decided to head there because we were too tired for a trip to the uber-touristic Taormina and not keen on the bland Giardini Naxos seafront touristy restaurants. What an inspiration! We arrived a little early for Sicilian dinner time but were received warmly. The one waiter who spoke good English suggested we go for antipasto and mixed grill, without us realizing that is pretty much the only choice in the house (don't go for primi piatti or you will burst), whilst the owner paid us a cheerful visit, explaining briefly about his produce. What followed was an almost never ending stream of delightful, authentic Sicilian antipasti which ranged from the ever present cold cuts to aubergine millifoglie to baked beans stew - all very very nice. Granted, the main course of mixed grill is very simple - a few pieces of grilled pork - but excellent in quality and authenticity. Also it is worth noting that the house wine, served from the "barrique" (cask) into a bottle is produced by the house and actually very nice.
This is a definite recommendation for those who tire from the tourist traps that abound in the region, and want to try some real, down to earth, authentic Sicilian food served in a cheerful atmosphere. To note that the vast majority of customers are large groups of Sicilians, which IMHO is always a good sign.
