“Well worth the trip”

Kipandi Butterfly Farm

We went to Kipandi butteryfly farm on other Trip Advisor's recommendations and so glad we did. It is not on too many tour itineraries but perhaps with demand it might get there because it is worth it. We negotiated a fare with one of the local taxis for 3 hours which was not expensive and went there. The knowledge of the young guide was very good and the photos we took while there (approx. 90 minutes) were amazing. They also had an orchid garden and the wild orchids were beautiful. By going to the farm in a taxi we were able to enjoy the countryside and the driver was keen to stop and show us a few local attractions on the way including a return trip via signal point to get an overview of KK.

My husband found this little gem online....it's a butterfly and moth park but also they have gorgeous gardens featuring orchids, hoyas and other plants. There are no tours direct so we hired a taxi....Takes approx 45 mins each way depending on traffic in KK but the scenery to the park is absolutely stunning...we were blown away ! We had the company of a staff member who was very eager to talk all things butterflies and moths !! You must allow your taxi or transport to wait for you as it is in quiet an isolated spot...allow at least 1- 1 1/2 hrs to wander around....We thoroughly enjoyed our morning there...Mornings are best to visit as the butterflies are active ++ and we were told that it does rain most pm s...Entrance fee is 30 Rg or equiv $10 Aust
Not many people know of this lovely place but we heartily recommend it.

Apparently February isn't the best time to see butterflies. And also the fact that very hot temperatures deter butterflies. It was 90 minutes drive from KK town. Despite all that, our visit to the farm was a worthwhile one. Our guide was a friendly person & went through every single details in the farm. Managed to spot a few butterflies and many other insects. Good place to see orchids too.

This is a wonderful little Butterfly/ Orchid park a little off the normal tourist routes which adds to its charm. We visited over the Chinese New Year Holiday and were the only people on site.
January, May or August are apparently the best time to visit for the Butterfly's, but there was still enough for us to see over the 2 hours we were there. They do not artificially feed the Butterfly's here as we have seen in other parks around the world and they have quite a wide Orchid collection as well as an Insect museum which is well worth a visit. Our guide, Rick, was very informative and enthusiastic which made our visit all the more enjoyable.
This is one of the better Butterfly Parks we have visited around the world and well worth the effort to go and visit if you are in the KK area.

Nice place, lots of bugs and things. Many creatures are small and need finding but my children found lots of things. Not many butterflies at this time of year but plenty of Orchids and other forest life.
