Unreal!! It was the most luxurious place we have ever stayed. The service was incredible, before you even knew you wanted something they had it ready for you. The staff was unbelievably friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. The resort is on over 400 acres so you’re assigned a “butler” who takes you everywhere you need to go on a golf cart and is also your personal concierge for anything you may need. There are countless “experience” opportunities including: horseback riding, hiking, yoga/fitness classes, mountain biking, ziplining, spa treatments, private beaches, the list goes on.. they even have a “kids” club complete with a butterfly garden (with a biologist on site to care for them and teach the kiddos) and multiple tree houses. This resort truly has it all.

We had to opportunity to do the Earth Connection Couples Massage which was incredible and so very special as newlyweds – I highly recommend a spa treatment. We also did the “Meet La Abuela” hike which was really pretty and a welcome break from all the eating and drinking. It was pretty strenuous in the first half (very steep/loose gravel and dirt) so I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who is a first-time hiker or not very active.

The in-villa dining was also a really special experience – it was so romantic to have a 5 course meal in the comfort of our little jungle bungalow. Truly there was no part of the trip or resort that we didn’t enjoy. Lastly, the food – we did not have a single bad meal. Our personal favorite was the breakfast at Alma restaurant. Everything was so fresh and they had an expansive list of items to choose from, it was the perfect way to start each day.

The One and Only Mandarina is a fantastic resort! It is in a stunning location with gorgeous villas and nearly faultless service. However, like every resort, it is not without a few minor issues.

The resort staff met us promptly at the airport and whisked us away in a Mercedes complete with drinks and friendly service. The drive to the resort can be very slow through crowded towns and narrow lanes. Once at the resort, we were greeted with by the very efficient and friendly staff. We appreciated that they followed strict COVID protocols, and all staff members were always wearing a mask. We were taken on a tour of the beautiful grounds. They have gone to great lengths to preserve the forest and ancient ruins discovered. However, that is a double-edged sword as the paths are extremely winding and the elevation makes walking a challenge. For the most part, this is an entirely buggy dependent resort. It is very confusing and spread out, so walking on the narrow paths where buggies are always whizzing by makes walking and navigating challenging and even a bit risky. The hills are very steep, so unless you are an intrepid walker, the buggy is always the preferred mode of transportation around the resort.

The villa is incredible. There is ample privacy as the villas are all spread out. The lush jungle and ocean views (if you choose the right villa!) are amazing. The A?C works well and all of the furnishings and decor are high quality. The shower is enormous and there is an outside tub for the rare cool evenings. The plunge pool is small, but the outside area is very generous. The plunge pool is perfectly temperature always controlled. The Internet is very speedy, and housekeeping is one of the best we have ever experienced. The treetop villa where we lodged had floor to ceiling windows on three sides, and a wall of glass sliding opened completely to give one the feeling of being in the jungle as the ocean breezes enveloped the entire indoor space.

The food at the main restaurant was pretty good. The breakfasts were much better than the dinner menu. There are no Mexican dishes on the very limited dinner menu. The restaurant has beautiful ocean views, but the overall food quality and selection were just okay. The service was always top notch. The Italian restaurant adjacent to the resort is right on the beach and has fantastic food. That is the best choice, but getting there is a bit of a hassle.

The staff were always very friendly and helpful. Overall, the service was exceptional. It is nice to always have a butler on staff to assist you. The spa was great and both treatments I received were excellent. The gym is nice and very cool which is nice with the heat and humidity. There were a few minor issues. Normally, the buggy service was very prompt. However, we had to wait once for almost 25 minutes which made us later for dinner. The resort does offer free COVID testing which is great. The technician showed up promptly at 11 AM the day before our departure. We were told we would have the results by that evening. We did NOT have them until four hours before departure! Actually, the resorts were sent to the resort the evening they were promised but that was NOT communicated to us. That caused a great deal of frustration. GET YOUR COVID TESTS 48-72 hours before your departure to avoid what we experienced. There are communication issues between the staff, so we did not always get the correct information regarding restaurant hours on several occasions.
Nonetheless, this is a wonderful resort with excellent service, luxurious villas and a glorious location. I wholeheartedy recommend without hesitation!

Room tip: The treetop rooms are adults only and have a great view!

My wife and I finally managed to jump on the plane after both Got vaccinated against Covid
The minute we arrived in Mandarina, we almost forgot about the whole pandemic nightmare!!!
The drive from Puerto Vallarta airport was easy but do not expect to get there in less than 90 min as it is a one lane road through the jungle.
Once you arrive to the property, your assigned butler takes you to your room..
We booked a panoramic ocean tree house...
I had to retain my tears when Miguel started burning sage around the room.
I have never seen such an incredible architecturally perfect design... The view, the room, the terrace, the outdoor tub, everything was a perfect 10!
We had two butlers, Jorge and Miguel.
I would have hired both of them to come home with us, every move was anticipated, the minute I texted them they would be on their way to take us wherever we desired... Definitely the best butters we ever had in any hotel.
The property is well spread out, no neighbors in sight, not once we felt too close to other people... ( it’s still a pandemic out there)
The pools are beautiful, the beach the jetty is also great , get the soft shell tacos or local oysters with mezcal to drink:)
The breakfast Alma was great for Breakfast, José Antonio seemed to be our waiter every day, fantastic waiter!
As far as food, Alma needs some work, but it is still a new property...
The room service is definitely the weakest point, the food is too limited and super boring, we had to wait 90 min one night for a miserable charcuterie and cheese platter ... So we kept eating out!!
The restaurant Carao is an absolute Must!!!
It is a very popular restaurant so reserve you first dinner ahead or at check in, you will go there more than once!!!
The Spa is magical, do not skip it! Do NOT!!! Even if it’s just to do the mud bath.
You also want to spend a day at Canalan Beach Club where chef Karla will prepare you an Italian meal you won’t forget!! We thought we were transported to Capri!
The prosciutto bruschetta, the pizzas even the pasta she managed to make just like in the best Roman restaurants!!!
Francisco the beach waiter was such a sweet guy, and Karla the chef came to talk to us and everyone else... I could adopt that family:)
The crowd that comes to this hotel is mostly Latin Jet Set, it really felt like we actually were in Mexico ( not like in Cabo where only the staff is local)
And if you have kids, bring them!!! The kids club is out of a fairytale with its own butterfly pavilion, a complex group of tree houses, amazing!
Bottom line we will return ASAP!!
The transfer from the airport is a bit of a challenge, give yourself plenty of time, as accidents and construction are not uncommon, it took us 3 hours on the way back due to construction...( now I understand the very steep price of airport transportation)
Well done One and Only! Mandarina is definitely one of the best hotels in the world, and the people who work there have a lot to do with it!!

This resort is set in such a beautiful location. The architecture and how they built this in the side of this beautiful, tropical cliff is something I have never seen. Their suites and views are stunning and their staff is kind and welcoming. However, they need some major work with their over all services. Their was very little attention to detail for guests. Our concierge took hours to get answers on simple things. Their golf cart service which you is needed to get around the resort is extremely slow, it took up to 20 minutes sometimes to pick us us. When we asked for something to our room we would often have to ask multiple times. Their staff was very nice and friendly.

Paradise, privacy, perfection. If getting away from it all is what you want, then this is the place to be. It is far from the maddening crowd and everything is done "con mucho gusto." Because it just opened in November, there is much more to come.
