WOW!!!! This place is SO well thought out! There are plenty of alternative accommodation options to have a look at but none are on top of each other. They give you plenty of space and tranquility to relax in private. We stayed in 'after the gold rush' and think we hit gold on our first stay. Everything we needed and more was well thought out, plenty of wood for the log burner, the yurt was well insulated, the paths to the facilities were well thought out and it was perfect!
We fished, rowed in the boats on the pond, walked around the lakes and the arboretum, went for a horse ride around the grounds, ate supper overlooking the pond star gazing and listening to the owls.
This place is probably as perfect as it gets. The little touches all around really make is exceptional!
We had no internet or phone signal in the yurt, and I personally really liked that. We read and chatted until the small hours, enjoying each other's company - our dog chased squirrels and Pheasants until she was knackered :-)
Thank you so much for a breathtaking experience x
Absolutely amazing place to visit. Well worth a see.
Was part of a fantastic wedding reception. So romantic and spot on.
So many friendly people.
Attended a wedding and was taken with the look of the place. The family still live here apparently so rent it out for weddings. Great setting from the hall to the rear courtyard for drinks/dinner. Lots of character but also lots of steps so disabled access probably tricky. Virtually no mobile signal which is probably a good thing. Ground's are stunning.
Attended a wedding here and stayed for the weekend. On arrival (from a distance) it looks quite nice and the grounds are extensive. As we got closer I began to wonder if we were in the right place, everywhere looked run down and there were rusty old cars and vans dumped on the car park. The accommodation inside was in need of a declutter, far too much tat just gathering dust. We experienced a lot of noise from people smoking outside which was inconvenient. The courtyard looked tatty and the plants were half dead, it was grubby and could benefit from a jet wash. The Ballroom was nice, however I was sat by a draughty window which didn't close properly. Overall the place needs a good sprucing up, clear out the tat, repair the broken planters, Windows, walls etc, get rid of the rusty vehicles and give the place a good clean. I wouldn't return if I didn't have to and I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a wedding venue.
We stayed in the Garden Flat for 3 nights as a last minute treat at the end of the summer holidays.
I wished we hadn't!
The accomadation was sandwiched between 2 properties that looked derelect. The outside area was littered with abandoned old cars and rusty corregated metal barns.
Inside wasn't much better, every soft furnishing as decorated with questionable stains and animal hair, the back garden was covered in dog poo and you couldn't open any windows because the property obviously had a serious wasp infestation. I killed 20 in my daughters bedroom!
The bathroom windows had old sheets up as curtains, both toilet seats were cracked, the upstairs toilet wouldn't even flush, although that didn't seem to bother the beetles that we kept finding in there!?!
If we could have found other accomadation we would have, but unfortunately we had to stay for the duration of our booking, and returned home covered in flea bites.
I would urge anyone contemplating booking here to stop immediately, as it is probably the worst place i've ever stayed!!
The only redeeming feature were the horses that roamed free around the grounds, much to my children's delight, unfortunately that was the only positive
My daughter got married in August 2015 at Walcot Hall. It was a wedding that you might see in a glossy magazine, so beautiful was it. We had arranged for the ceremony to be outside in front of the fountain although the weather forecast was for rain. The Walcot Hall people were absolutely brilliant and completely flexible and relaxed. Had it rained, we would have re-arranged the ceremony in the hall. The whole site is quirky and completely unique. The grounds are extensive and beautiful. The people are lovely. Don't expect IKEA!
