Simple things in life can bring the most pleasure and remind you of the everyday things we miss in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The teams correspsondence before we arrived with Caitlin and LucieAnne was superb, speedy and welcoming.
We arrived to our yurt overlooking the fishing pond with our boat moored and ready to go when we wanted.
We had a superb wood burner all prepared and fully stocked to last us 5 days.
The yurt was initially cold as we arrived after dark and it had not been in use that day. Within 15 minutes the wood burner was like central heating with a vengeance. We were toastie and snuggled up in the couch relaxing and chatting over a couple of gin and tonics. Candles are a must and also not just for light as there are no electrics at all. But to create a soothing atmosphere that truly relaxes you and let's you unwind. No phone signal or internet for miles is a dream come true and leaves you almost lost in time and not clock watching etc.
We fished, we walked, we drank, we ate on the balcony , our little Westie had a great time ambling the woods around us and dropping back in to say hi.
The facilities are great and I can thoroughly recommend this to any couple for a relaxing time and a renewing and rekindling of why you got together originally as all you have is time to spend and talk with each other with no distractions.
Walcott hall we will return and your estate pub called The Powis Arms has a dedicated passionate chef and a wonderful hostess in Hollie who looked after us and even rang another restaurant for us one night as they weren't serving food on a Monday evening. She really did go the extra mile for us. By the way love the new toilets on the powis arms and the converted hen coops for toilets by the yurt were inspiring and I am sure George Clark would love to see your amazing spaces !
We visited Walcot Hall on an Open Day and really enjoyed looking round. There are lots of interesting and unusual things to see, and I particularly liked seeing the portrait of the children, posed in the living room, in a traditional way, then later seeing the children themselves, busy on the computer while the guests looked round. The old ballroom, which I believe is used for weddings, was turned into a tea room, and served a lovely selection of cakes and tea. The grounds were really interesting, and included a number of estate buildings, and different areas to explore. It's well worth checking up when this is open to the public and going along to check it out.
Site has many and various cottages, houses, rooms. Great for large family gatherings with loads of outdoor areas, lakes, gardens. One can only imagine the hall in its glorious times with lots of service staff and supporting farm workers living in the staff homes. The Garden House and cottage called Harold were warm, clean and comfortable. If you prefer modern city hotels, this stately home and buildings is not for you.
Recently visited for a family wedding. A stunning venue which helped created a memorable wedding day.
If staying for the weekend the cottages have a lovely warm feel however the art work on the walls are a little off putting and are likely to be found in a scary movie.
Held my Daughters Wedding at Walcott hall. I have nothing but praise for the venue and help given by the Staff. Lucieanne is a treasure nothing was any trouble for her and she was always available during the whole weekend.
I recommend Walcott Hall to all as a Wedding reception venue
After attending a wedding there recently, I would say that the house is most disappointing and looks much better on the website.
