Stopped in for lunch and took only a moment to realize that if I wanted a taste of Caribbean food that I was going to get it with “Island (Slow) Service”. I sat at the bar to eat but I was taken care of by the host even though there was a bartender who seemed more interested in texting than his customers.

I ordered the “Jerk Chicken” appetizer for $9 and I am still not sure if it was chicken I got or “Jerk Pork”. A possible ordering mistake that I could live with as the jerk sauce was nice and spicy.

I was disappointed that other menu items like a “Dinner Salad” or “Cassava Pone” were not available. I can understand the “Cassava Pone” but the “Dinner Salad” ?????

This place has a very local feel to it and I am sure it has a loyal local following for good reasons even with what I consider some shortcomings.

Very different from what other people report. Arrived about 10:30 pm -- layover from JFK, seemed to be ample time to get back to JFK by quarter after midnight. (The distance to JFK is very short except if you hit traffic on the Van Wyck or the JFK access road or the ramp to your terminal -- which fortunately we did not.) We ordered in under 2 minutes, nothing fancy: BBQ chicken, fried rice, chicken and broccoli. No more than two other people in the dining area, three or four at the bar. Could not believe how long it took for the food to arrive, at least 40 minutes; then, since all we could do was run, how long it took -- like 10 minutes -- to get containers for the food -- and another 5 minutes to get the bill. There were more waitstaff than customers in the restaurant, all up front laughing and chatting with each other. Also, refused to lower the blaring relentless music -- I love reggae and Caribbean music, one reason we chose this place was looking for authentic atmosphere -- but this was insanely loud and for no reason -- wasn't like a party going on. We'd intended a short visit with family who drove to airport to meet us, but even though we asked politely three times to lower it a little and they indicated they would, conversation was never possible. Oh, and the food was OK, the chicken pretty good, but nothing special. No restaurant parking and not that easy to find street parking, even after 10 pm, on Saturday night.

I have been to legend a few times and they're really good. I order for delivery at JFK and they actually do. There was no long wait for the delivery and the food was at a good temperature. I will go back and I do recommend this p k ace for a simple or even a friends night out.
