We were eating quite early (for us) since we had a date with Omid Djalili at the Hall for Cornwall. They are happy for you to turn up at 6, though we were a few minutes early and still made welcome, seated in the little lounge. Very hospitable. We were able to order food and wine there and then be shown to our table once the first course was ready. And to do them credit, the first course is an amuse bouche, a little bit of delight before the meal proper. Served in a cup (it was soup). A nice touch. We had the hake (a coincidence, we like to have different courses and share, but this looked so good). Very nicely done, and with some vegetables. Asked for more bread and got it without complaint (why don't many British restaurants ply you with bread like French restaurants?). We didn't finish the bottle of wine and they were happy to find a screw top for us. Good service, a pleasant wait person, and all in all a good experience.
