A very popular place for walkers and cyclists to enjoy wandering around to enjoy the great outdoors. Plenty of paths to follow with some that are quite steep and slippery but that just adds to the enjoyment. The Wireworks Project is not up and running yet but you can see through the fence what it is all about.

A woodland on the site of former ironworking and quarrying, set on the hillside above the River Derwent.

Although there is a walking trail through the woods we found this to be unhelpful. There are a variety of trails and public footpaths to follow and maps in the wood. Some of them require wading through boggy patches. Hidden away is a small pond and a stream and a small reservoir near the edge. It's also well known as a bluebell wood in season. Gives great views of the surroundings from the top of the wood.

Parking is off Holly Lane or at Ambergate railway station and there are various access points along Holly Lane if on foot. It's peaceful despite being popular with walkers, cyclists and horses. Part of the walk goes through the old wireworks site and then beyond here becomes a track, so is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies, especially if venturing off this track.
