We only came here on recommendation from a friend, otherwise from the outside look of the place we would have just driven away. This a time warp, tatty and worn (although the toilets were fine albeit 'outside') However the welcome, the beer and the food were excellent. We shared two plates of scallops between three of us and they were delicious with lovely warm bread. Then spicy crab claws, a huge wok came straight to the table with more bread and we just got stuck in. Beautiful, rich liquor/broth with the claws, just the right amount of spice, lovely! It got very busy even though it was mid week and the rest of the menu looked great as well.

Four of us went for lunch. First impressions are it is small and dingy but has certainly olde world charm if you like that sort of thing. We had an excellent and friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar. We would have liked to sit outside on the long bench tables under umbrellas but she said that rain was forecast so best to sit inside.
We ordered 2 crab salads that were freshly made and ok but nothing to rave about. One of the party had hake & chips which looked excellent and they enjoyed it very much. The special of crab claws with sweet chilli are to be avoided. They are disgusting. We thought they would be fresh crab claws with a little sweet chilli sauce to dip in. Wrong!!! They came swimming in a bowl of sweet chilli gloop and were extremely messy to eat. The beautiful crab claws were ruined in our opinion. 2 of our party had eaten there in the past but thought that it was not as good as it once was.

Must have passed the Rod & Line countless times on the main road and never made the slight detour to discover this gem.Thankfully amends have been made.
Stopped off for dinner and just loved the whole experience.Fantastic untouched decor..candle light..homely atmosphere..friendly locals and a buzzy vibe.
Plenty of beers on offer and exceptional food..from a varied menu.We both had the fish goujons..from monkfish and sole..delicious and a hearty portion.
Service was swift and entertaining and the prices on the reasonable/good value cusp.
Back soon..

Our guest house hosts recommended it and we were pleased. Car park opposite the pub was convenient, and the pub had tasty, seafood and fish centric food. Food was very tasty, and reasonably priced. Great selection of drinks. Pub is small, and a little tatty, but offers a genuine British pub experience. Would return again if in the area
