I really, really hate writing reviews running a place down. And this restaurant is so excellent, in so many ways: the food itself is delicious and is excellently presented.
But we have now visited it three times in total: on each and every occasion we have had, amidst profuse apologies, service so slow that when we have described it to others afterwards they have declared "why didn't you walk out!!"
We booked a table for 2 on a Saturday night, which of course is a busy evening: apparently the table designated for us was still being used by the previous occupants and so we waited in the bar, where we were served drinks whilst waiting. Eventually, we were shown to a small table adjacent to the bar, as they were still unable to seat us in the main dining room.
We ordered our main courses which took nearly three quarters of an hour to arrive. Then, after eating, we were ignored for a very very long time. Eventually, after apologies from the waiting staff, we were able to give our desserts order which we were told were "on the house" by way of apology. Even these took forever to arrive! We were in the restaurant from 7.15pm until well past 9.30 pm....... this for only two courses.
We were given a discount as well as our free desserts, but sadly this does not make up for a spoiled evening. (It was our Wedding Anniversary) After having three such experiences, (see my review of Sept. 2017) we will not feel able to enjoy visiting here again.

Dear ChesireAlligator,

I would like to apologize for the service you received on your visit to us on this particular Saturday evening, we hold our hands up entirely and admit the evening didn't go as planned. We have made great inroads recently into our service and we are sorry that on this particular evening we were unable to give you the service expect to give our customers.

Kindest Regards,

Lewis Connor

We found this place whilst on holiday and visited twice during the week. The food is excellent and the menu is varied and really offers something for everyone. I highly recommend the prawn cocktail and pate. Steaks are excellent as are the sausages and mash. The staff are also really friendly. These meals were by far the best we had all week and quite reasonably priced.

Found this place by chance last week whilst on holiday. We were a party of 5 including a 2 year old looking for a child friendly pub for our evening meal. The food (all home cooked) and service were excellent. I had the curry which was delicious, followed by Eton Mess - the best I've had in a long time. The service was also very quick and the staff friendly. I could highly recommend The Goat Inn and if we were to be in the area again, would return.

If you are looking for a pub with high quality food this is a very good option. One of my family needs the gluten free options and the goat inn has a great choice. I had the Lamb shank which was one of the best I have tasted in a long time.
