Huvafen Fushi Maldives

After reading comments on this site beforehand i was excited to go, but worried in case the negative comments were true!

But when me and my partner got there, i was blown away, anything and everything that you could think of was done for you or readily available! Our ocean Bungalow was amazing, to wake up to that view every morning is phenomenal! The weather was fantastic except the afternoons and evening of last two days but mornings were still great considering it is rainy season!

Our thakura Shaheed was lovely and everyone in the restaurants wer kind and friendly. As someone commented negatively before, all that was not apparent when i was there and think they must be talking about a totally different place!

Many tips and advice!

1. Dont bother spending extra on the underwater spa, all you get is an extra mirror and in the normal spa rooms there is glass bottom so that is much better. We had a tour of the under water spa, ask Thakura for a nosey and you can go down and take photos and have a look, you will notice it isnt that grat anyway for the money!

2. When you ring up for a spa treament, ask if there anre any offers, i wanted both a massage and a scrub but was too pricey so i asked for exfoliation body treatment( forgot name) and my boyfriend wanted a massage, i was gooing to be going for 60 mins and he;'d be going for 90, but when i rang the lady offere a treatment for both of us, 90 minute treatment where 30 mins exfoliationa nd 60 mins massage! we both got what we wanted and at a really good price $200 each!

3. Instead of having to pay extra for evian water for the mini bar just stock up on all the bottles of complimentary water and then you can always have some when ever you want, put it in fridge, no problemo!

4. if you want to be nosy, dont hesitate for a tour of all the different rooms! The beach pavillion is to die for!!!

5. Dont bother taking fancy heels or shoes. there is no need, walk around with sandals and then take them!

It is the most phenomenal place ever! I loved it and me and my partner will most definately be going back!

P.S. Haggle with the jeweller! You can easily get the price you want but make sure you quote the exchange rate from england as they do at £1 is $2!!!

We arrived at Male airport and as we walked out of the arrivals hall obviously looking slightly bemused and tired we were approached by the friendliest person who address us by name, despite us coming through arrivals with something like 500 other people. It was the start of the most wonderful experience you could imagine. Our baggage was whisked away and we were taken off and offered a drink whilst we waited a couple of minutes for two other couples.

Within minutes we were taken to a waiting speed boat for the transfer to the resort.

As we arrived some 35 minutes later we were welcomed by more wonderful, smiling friendly staff who gave us cool towels and a fresh fruit juice to welcome us.

We were introduced to our thakuru, Azleef, who took us to a golf cart and whisked us away to our bungalow anouncing that we had been upgraded to a Lagoon Bungalow for the first four nights of our stay. Upon arrival we were shown our room and then given some time to relax, Azleef had programmed his number into the phone system and told us to give him a call when we were ready for a tour of the island.

This was just the start of a stay in paradise. Throughout our stay we meet the most friendly, helpful staff, they were unobtrusive but always there just when you wanted them with a smile and always eager to help. It started first thing in the morning with Azra in the restaurant and continued throughout the day until we returned to our bungalow after dinner.

The dolphin cruise is a must and worth every penny.

If you are looking for a holiday with the most attentive, friendly staff you do not need to look any further than Huvafen Fushi. The whole week was like a dream.

My husband and I went to Huvafen Fushi for our honeymoon.

After being once before to the Maldives (Kanuhura), i was initally disappointed with the island.

The island was very small, sometimes a little littered too in the mornings we noticed when walking to breakfast. I would expect staff to clear the beach of any rubbish before sunrise.

Sometimes the food was a little disappointing too. We went on the private island picnic and the food was like something you'd give your kids for packed lunch.

At breakfast on a number of occations, we had to chase up our drinks orders etc.

The accommodation was great. We had a water villa. It was very spacious with all the mod cons you'd expect. Bath with a view out to the ocean etc.

The spa was excellent. Some people thought the whole spa was underwater, this is what attracted them to the resort, only to find that there were 2 underwater rooms and you have to pay substantially more to use them.

Our butler was great. Jamil.

I would say this hotel is a little overrated - I think people are being somewhat over generous to give it 5 out of 5.

sorry!

That it was just great. I don't like to make a fuss, I don't want to talk to other people, i don't want to do anything but laze around and forget the world. Huvafen delivered.

My husband and I went to Huvafen Fushi this January (sorry for the late review!) and it was absolutely fantastic. Like me, I’m sure you are going from resort to resort trying to find “The One” that suits your likes and budget. We originally booked a Lagoon Bungalow but were upgraded to an Ocean Bungalow (that was amazing as you get front row seats to the amazing sunsets every night as well as a chance to watch the dolphins swim by you while you are lounging in your private plunge pool!) A surprise of chilled champagne and a huge bouquet of tropical flowers set the tone for the week. The bungalow itself is a great size; includes a living room with a glass bottom floor, a huge king side bed and spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi which overlooks the ocean. What’s practical is that there are doors leading from each room so you can zip in to grab water from the fridge, play with the iPod and Bose system, or well….use the bathroom!!! There is a small area which has wonderful teas and a coffee/espresso machine. The air conditioning worked extremely well and it’s much needed when the temperature was 31C until 7pm at night!

We love to eat, and of course we were expecting a high quality in food service, plenty of choices and fresh ingredients. I must say I was wondering how they could pull this one off but the food was superb along with the friendliness and promptness of the servers. By the third day they were calling us by our names and always seem to fill up our water/wine glasses when needed, but they were never obtrusive. I would definitely recommend all of the restaurants (except Raw, we never got around to that one!), Cardamon and our favorite night was the dinner in the underground wine cellar, Vinum. The sommelier and General Manager are very friendly and whether you are an expert or novice wine drinker, you will love this night!! What impressed me very much was their willingness to accommodate you should you have any food allergies or strong dislikes. (I am not a fan of lamb and casually mentioned this to our Thakaru, unbeknownst to me, he ensured that for both dinners at Cardamon and Vinum I was not served this!!) Now that’s exceptional!!

Other positives about this island/resort:

1. The water is crystal clear blue and the sand is pure white and feels like sugar through your hands.
2. The spa – beautiful, clean and professional. We had a couples massage. There are glass bottom floors so you can see the fish swim while they are working out all of your knots! We didn’t go to the underground spa as we did a lot of snorkeling and felt $100 extra while you mainly close your eyes and look at the floor was not worth it to us.
3. Snorkel tour with marine biologist – fantastic to learn about what fish you can see while you snorkel or just sitting at on your dock (the water is extremely clear!)
4. Water sports – we kayaked and took out the catamaran, great equipment and when you return, it was wonderful having someone there waiting for you with cold towels and bottled water!
5. Don’t have to bring a lot of shoes, most people go barefoot!

Huvafen Fushi is truly a remarkable resort and although you are 1,000’s of miles away from home, the service levels amongst all of the staff, from the General Manager to the Executive Head Chef to all the servers is superb. Go, you’ll love it.
