I enjoyed my brief stay at the Yannis Hotel, but it was surprising in a few ways, compared to some of the reviews I had read. First, while it should be your first choice if wanting to experience the nearby mud baths (which closed for the season on Oct. 15), it is out of town and not all that close to the Philippi archaeological site, which was the primary attraction for me (about 3km distant). In fact, the signage to find the hotel is limited, and could be troublesome if you are not familiar with the area. Even my GPS wasn't able to provide a precise location. Krinides may not offer many alternatives, but a stay in Kavala surely will, if you are going to drive to the site anyway.
The hotel itself was cozy, but the single bed was another surprise. Although I was alone, it still felt small, and overly firm.
Breakfast was still another surprise, but in a pleasant way. There was a large selection of breads, jams (incl. homemade), meats, cheeses, cereals, etc. Being a smallish hotel during non-peak tourist season, I was expecting less. But it was a great start for the day.More
