We honeymooned in this delightful time warp 30 years ago. Much has changed over the years but the fine dining and friendly service remains the same. It is a delight in this age to enjoy comfy old world style with no plastic card to open the door and no TV or WiFi in the rooms. The squeaking wooden floors add an extra element, and will perhaps give warning should the reputed ghost come visiting!
Enjoy sun-downers on the Lairds Arms' veranda while watching the passing trains. Dinner is an opportunity to enjoy Karoo lamb at it's very best.
The swimming pool is one notable improvement, not the rather green fish pond we were faced with on our first stay.
The stay will cost a bit, but is well worth it.

Thank you so much for your detailed review on your stay with us. It is so lovely to hear off guests like yourself who have stayed with us over 30 years ago and to see the improvements over the years. Matjiesfontein is one of those places where allot can change in a few years, but everything actually stays the same (time stands still). We look forward seeing you back in this old Karoo gem!

Excellent week-end attending a Boer War Conference. Had a wonderful time, it was nice to see the Karoo stars and wide open spaces. The meals were excellent and the breakfasts are to be experienced. The Lord Milner is a must for any bucket list.

The Lord Milnerton hotel was an amazing place to stay, like travelling back to the turn of the 1900s but with a comfy bed, superb food and service, and you get a history lesson a you are driven slowly around the tiny town in a Number 12 London Red Rover bus from the 1950s.
Entertainment was provided in the next door pub, a tribute to Elvis and lots of 1960s songs.

Room Tip: Choose a room with balcony then you can sit out and enjoy a glass of South African wine

Lovely setting for this hotel but nothing nearby for many miles so expect to eat and buy all drinks at the hotel. Food is really good and well priced but the drinks are expensive. The staff are very friendly and eager to be of service. We stayed in the motel section of the hotel for 1 night as we were passing through. The room was clean and the linen crisp- the double bed was very small so very glad I was not staying another night. No tv or fridge which we expected for the price. Very pleasant experience overall

Thank you very much for your review and we always appreciate any constructive feedback from our guests. Great to hear that you enjoyed the food and the overall stay with us. The Lord Milner Hotel sets itself apart from other hotels on the "old world" authentic experience it offers to its guests and by not having TV's in the rooms are one such aspect. The motel rooms however will receive some upgrade in the very near future, as we understand it is very popular rooms and just as important to management as our hotel rooms. We look forward seeing you back again!

We have been coming to the Lord Milner Hotel for occasional visits over the past 30 years. We are delighted to see all the restorative work that has been done and evident attention to the general upkeep and running of the hotel and other amenities. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food has been excellent and the room superb. Thank you. Highly recommended!
