Having visited this spot the second time now, I am still fascinated by the mixture of rural traditions, the magic view and the stylish people visiting.
On top you also find a nice little coffee shop with perfect homemade cakes as well as places for traditional Thai food, fruit stalls and the way up is lined with market stalls selling traditional clothes, souvenirs, vegetables, fruit.
If you don‘t want to walk the short distance from the parking site to the top you can also use the motortaxi service.
People there also offer handmade, wooden cars + shuttle service for a funride on a stony slope. That is really fun.

This makes a lovely half day excursion. It is a fairly quick drive from Chiang Mai - past all the Mae Rim attractions and off up a side road to a hill/mountain region. It is one of the many Royal projects to help village people to grow vegetables; here they are growing mostly cabbages, lettuces, strawberries, flowers and herbs. It is a beautiful environment - green terraces as far as you can see, and the car park is situated on a ridge so the views are wonderful. Or they would be if the clouds would lift...

Park and then walk - you can stroll around a few of the fields, then along the road a bit if you feel like it. Hint - don't go in high season or on popular holidays, because it gets very crowded and the car park over-full at those times. We were there in low season. For lunch, I believe there are little restaurant huts - but we didn't find them! Perhaps they are only set up in high season? Instead we drove back down to the river and ate at one of the many little restaurants there - good cheap local food.

A good excursion, not for a full day unless you combine it with something else - and don't expect anything fancy. It's exactly what we wanted.

Mon Cham, Royal Mountain Project. This used to be the opium growing area and was converted to growing lettuces, cabbages, strawberries and flowers.

Interesting journey by road towards the hill project. There are also accommodation for visitors to stay for the night or longer period. If time is not a luxury, take the loop road to see the estate.

There are small cafes and restaurant selling food.
