Description: The Fish and Eels in Hoddesdon is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

If you are thinking of having a meal here , then please reconsider. This place has absolutely no idea what they are doing .
After being told my first 3 items I wished to order were not available, 7.30 booking and told to hurry up and order as kitchen was closing at 8 tonight ! We ordered starters and told restaurant staff we wished a break after before mains arrived, one member of staff placed starters on table and 2 mins later mains arrived while still eating the very stale bread and oil. We sent food away only for the same meals to return 30 mins later . Stale and barely warm. At this point we decided enough was enough and to leave. Restaurant had 4 other people in it so can’t blame that . Obviously it’s just a job to these people rather than a passion. Getting it so wrong on every level . We went on to another restaurant nearby for a far better service. We will never return to such a shambles of a pub / restaurant. Hoddesdon was vibrant and busy that night , but this place was empty! They need to ask themselves why ?

Thank you Colin for your recent feedback and reflections on our business.

Whilst we appreciate all quality related feedback i must highlight you as a nation we are still experiencing supply issues which unfortunately impacts you as a guest. Whilst we understand the disappointment of not having a full menu available this is out of our control. We do hope our guests are sympathetic to the issues we face as we are not alone in those issues which is spread across not just our industry but others.

I would also like to clarify our kitchen that evening did not close till 9pm which was evident from the meals that left our kitchen after yours as we were not empty like you have stated.

You spoke with a member of management after you finished your meal with us and were compensated for your feelings on your visit however as is your right you have also shared your feelings on trip advisor which is a disappointment to us as we would of hope we would of been given an opportunity to work on that feedback you have given rather than condemned by yourself especially in such challenging times of recovery due to the covid-19 pandemic which has placed this country in a state of recovery.

Once again we thank you for your feedback on the evening and on here and we wish you would of given us a second chance but clearly that will not be the case which is a shame as we are ranked 3rd best restaurant on trip advisor and will only continue to improve on that ranking.

Kind Regards

Emma and The Fish and Eels Team

I have been coming to the Fish & Eels most lunchtimes for a few months now as working in the area. It's a beautiful pub and the staff can't do enough for you, a special mention to Natalie who has been an absolute star and nothing is too much trouble for her to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Would recommend to anyone to come here.
