My husband and I chose Maplehurst Manor based on the website and trip advisor reviews. We booked in early summer for the long weekend in September. While the place is beautiful it didn't live up to the hype. You see, Anne is no longer the owner, she sold in July. The new caretaker is a lovely lady that worked for Anne but nothing is the same and no one bothered to advise us.

First, there is no longer a 3 course meal as the website explains. Our breakfast consisted of a bowl of fruit with yogurt on top and the bacon,
eggs, 1 piece of toast, jam, coffee and juice. No choices. The meals weren't even prepared in the manor kitchen but in the caretakers home.

Second, there was no welcome reception with wine and appetizers in the afternoon as the website explains. We had the best suite in the house which was also a little disappointing, there were spiders and bugs on the ceiling. The curtains are made so that they can't close.Whoever the new owners are, they have dropped the ball on this.

We should have been informed of all the changes but weren't. We will not return.

This was a stop for us on a bicycle tour of the Waterfront Trail along the St Lawrence River. Anne exceeded our expectations in a number of areas compared to other B&B’s and Inn’s we visited on our trip. The property itself is beautiful and full credit to Anne for restoring it. Thank God for gutsy entrepreneurs like her who rescue and re-rejuvenate heritage properties. She greeted us with options for a cold drink – water, beer, wine. Other inn-keepers take note. There is nothing more welcome, especially for cyclists, than the offer of refreshment upon arrival. As we were the only guests, she instantly upgraded us to the best room. This is a ‘no-brainer’ for creating a positive experience that so many other inn-keepers seem to miss.
This property is 4 km east of Brockville in Maitland. There are no options for dinner except in Brockville. Our host offered us a lift but it is only a $13 cab ride. There are several good options for dinner in Brockville.
Breakfast was also a notch above. I highly recommend the Manor.

We have been using B&B’s from Vancouver Island to Southern Germany and from the Yukon to South Africa and Maplehurst Manor is one of our favourite places.
First, it is a beautiful property and mansion, in a quiet location with a great view of the St Lawrence River, of the Seaway and of its ship traffic.
The B&B operation is in the main part of the mansion and as the owner now resides in the former servants’ quarters. Guests have the run of the common areas of the mansion: foyer, music room, dining room and a well-equipped modern kitchen available for occasional use. The Mansion is tastefully decorated in a style appropriate for this mid 1850s Neo Classic property. Of course, it has been renovated to provide all the comfort and amenities expected in a modern facility, but in addition, it has warmth and charm.
Also contributing to making this B&B different is the hospitality provided. The host is very gracious and service is attentive, prompt, courteous and very discrete. Breakfast is high quality, nicely prepared, copious and appealing. A number of nice touches, from welcome drink to after-dinner treats and turn-down service, will make you think you are in one of the great hotels of Europe at the time of the Belle Epoque. A stay at the Manor is a most enjoyable and relaxing way to end the day. We will return.

Room Tip: We loved the Victoria Suite on the main floor - very spacious, elegant and no stairs.

We recently attended a 40th wedding celebration at the carriage house reception hall attached to the Manor. We arrived very late for a 5:30 surprise and asked if a room was available. Although it was off-season the hostess quickly gave us a tour, turned up the heat and made us feel very welcome. The room was outstanding and the Manor as a whole was not only comfortable but beautifully decorated as well. In the morning we were treated to a delightful breakfast in an elegant setting overlooking the St. Lawrence River, complete with linen and fine china. We felt like a favoured family member. Because it was off-season, we were offered a discounted rate as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent meal in the carriage house as well. Great spot for a wedding or honeymoon.

We stayed at Maplehurst the first night of our 28 day excursion to the Canadian Atlantic provinces and again on the last night before travelling home. Our host was very warm and gracious with only our needs in mind. The breakfasts were outstanding and we had the added pleasure of Tara and Bailey's company, the house pups. When we arrived on July 17, the temperature was about 35 degrees Celius and Anne had the air turned on in our room so that we would be comfortable on our arrival. The decor is outstanding and the view of the St. Lawrence river memorable. We would definitely recommend Maplehust as a relaxing and elegant stay for young or old and will definitely return when we are in the area.

Thanh you
Gary and Helene
