Christophe Rault Private Tours
Attraction details
Reviewed 1 June 2018 via mobile

Many tour guides are knowledgeable, but few bring the passion and the enthusiasm to their vocation as does Christophe Rault. We spent a day touring the D-Day landing sites with him and, not only were we able to see these historic locations, but, we were also exposed to a rich and personalized narration of the events that transpired in the weeks before and after June 6, 1944. Christophe is detailed in his presentation of D-Day. He brings personal stories of the veterans he has met throughout the years and weaves their perspective into his tours. His knowledge base is immense. He has studied the battles and the strategies throughout the years and is able to bring together all aspects of the campaign from many different vantage points into the tour and the discussion. This provides a rich and detailed overview of the area. We all enjoyed our day along the Normandy coast. We can highly recommend Christophe Rault to provide an educational and exciting day of touring.

Wish there were six stars. Seriously.

He's knowledgeable in so much detail, it's incredible. And he brings old photographs and diagrams/graphs, maps that make details so much clearer as to why the landings were planned the way they were. The strategies on both sides etc. Christophe has such a passion for the history, that it is absolutely contagious. He had a ready response to every single question. There was no rush at all, we lingered at each stop to hear history, well known facts as well as interesting side stories that he's learned over the years, some from the descendants of those who landed here. He is just a joy to spend a day with. Very pleasant personality and a gift for teaching. We could not have asked for more.

Fair warning, it's a long day. Christophe means business. We only had one day and focused on the primary sites of the American sector, per his advice: Sainte Mere-Eglise, Utah, Omaha, the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, and Pointe du Hoc. This took 12 hours. Actually, a little more. That is how detailed Christophe's tours are. We were really tired by the end of the day, but also felt enlightened, humbled, grateful and absolutely delighted with our day.

I can't recommend Christophe and his tours enough. We will return, and will book with him again, and allow more than just a day.

Christophe took four of us on two days of touring of the D-Day Beaches. Day one focused on the Canadian sector including Juno Beach. Day two focused on the American sector.

Not wanting to drive, we had Christophe pick us up in his Fiat Multiple. It was very comfortable for four large adults and had extremely large sightseeing windows.

Christophe is a master storyteller. He has throughly researched all aspects of the first and second world wars and is able to bring the players to life whether a political figure, a military leader or infantry. You deeply feel the stories of the soldiers landing on the beach, the military leaders decision making angst, the families back home and even the local villagers.

He brings with him a binder of pictures that brilliantly helps you comprehend what it was like at the time. He exhibits a passion for the subject and a conviction for ensuring that the stories get told. Despite the passage of time, it is clear that he is living in the moment as he shares what he knows.

He is, by far, one of the best guides that we have had the privilege of working with.

My family/friends group of 5 spent a full day with Christophe. I contacted him by email 3 months in advance. He promptly replied and was clear in communication regarding our plans and the price of the tour. We needed to stow our bags in his car during the tour and that wasn’t a problem. We also asked to be delivered to the Bayeux train station to make a 6:30pm train back to Paris. Christophe arranged to pick us up at our hotel at 8:30 to accommodate the earlier ending time. He was kind enough to walk us into the station to make certain that we made our train. His car is comfortable and the windows are very large, so even folks in the middle seat or backseat can see well. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking.

The tour itself was efficient and covered the complex subject well. He has a great depth of knowledge and is able to give you context to help you understand the massive plans and the small details. He is personable and fun to spend the day with. Christophe also conveys his passion for the subject.

The tour includes details of the contributions from often forgotten segments of our melting pot that is America.

He timed our tour to enable us to view that flag ceremony at the American Cemetery.

Christophe Rault was incredible from start to finish. I don’t write many reviews, but in this case I just had to.
After realizing that we were going to have a couple extra days at the end of a trip in England with friends, we decided to check into heading to France to see Normandy. Christophe quickly responded to our inquiry and after checking his schedule, was able to fit us in (he is very heavily scheduled). We knew that with only one day to tour (we took the ferry from Portsmouth the day before), we couldn’t see a lot, so decided to concentrate on the American sectors.Neither my wife or I had anything specific in mind, as all of our relatives who served in WWII served in the Pacific so we relied on Christophe to develop the one day plan for our tour. We were staying in Caen so he asked if we would mind getting an early start, since the drive out to Utah beach would take some time. We told him we were early risers and were looking forward to seeing as much as possible during our one day and would bring lunch with us to maximize our time. He went non-stop for almost 11 hours. He had so much knowledge and information, but it never felt like he was just following a script. He answered any question we had, even when they weren’t specific to the D-Day landings.

Because of his experience, knowledge, helpfulness and responsiveness, we unreservedly recommend Christophe.

Thanks Christophe for such a great day.
