Owner description: Lepakshi, in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, is easily accessible from Bangalore. The beautiful Veerabhadraswamy Temple and India’s largest monolithic granite Nandi (a bearlike creature) make for a great day-trip option.

This was the long time pending place in our bucket. So the cousins gang decided to drive. Bangalore to Lepakshi is 120 kms.

We started by 7:30 am , a quick break for breakfast and direct to Lepakshi. When we entered The temple, guide was ready to help us.

It took us an hour for a complete tour. We spent 2 more hours clicking pictures.

Worth a visit. So proud of our architecture.

The spectacular Nandi is one of the biggest monolithic Nandi in India, located almost a mile before the main temple and faces the shivalinga shielded by a huge serpent. Lepakshi Nandi is the main attractions in Lepakshi, the huge Nandi bull made of a single granite stone with 4.5m high and 8.23m long. Image source: panoramio

This place is a nice idea for a day outing from Bangalore. Road till Lepakshi is very good and traffic is very minimal. Try to hire a guide to understand all about this place. Guides are available the temple.
There is no proper eating place in and around this place. Carry you own food and water for a comfortable outing.

It is wonderful nandi, and the largest one. The temple is amazing with several interesting features and stories around it. A must see. It gets hot so the best time to visit it in November through February.
When Ravana was carrying away Sita, Jatayu saw this, and tried to fight Ravana. But Jatayu had grown old and weak and was unable to win the fight. It si said that this is the place where Jatayu fell.
