We stayed here for 3 nights this September. We arrived at the hotel fairly early, around 11am, our room was not ready so we decided to change and relax by the pool. However, we were told that we would be charged for pool towels which was a bit annoying as hotels usually provide these free and it just felt like a money making scheme. The beds near the pool were lovely and extremely relaxing, although the swimming pool was freezing!. The same day we had some lunch at the pool bar/restaurant and the food was good, although extremely expensive for the portion size they provided, so a dish that could be classified as a starter was the cost of a main. The service was extremely slow and the one chubbier guy who works weekends was extremely extremely slow and quite rude with not much ability to speak English. To be honest he was not capable of being a waiter. I could see on the days that we were there, other guests had to keep ringing the bell multiple times as he kept disappearing into the kitchen. He also never came to take our payment so we had to go to the bar and request to pay. We never ate there again apart from getting some drinks and ice cream. The other older man who served us once was so rude and again very slow. However, one waiter who was bald and wore glasses was lovely and he served ever so quickly. Apologies as I did not take down their names.

The room was lovely and quite large with an amazing sea view, we were in room 711. Bathroom was a bit dated but was acceptable. Toiletries were provided and towels too but the bath towels were so small and getting slightly threadbare. Balcony on the room was lovely with a small table and 2 chairs. Plenty of space to store things too. However, for a hotel classified as a 4 star I would expect to see better towels and also coffee and tea making facilities as well as an iron and ironing board and a filled minibar. The safe was also one that you needed to pay extra to use. There was no channel list for the tv. Further, there was no room service or laundry service which for a 4 star is quite surprising.

Breakfast was good and had a good variety. However, not so much hot food for vegetarians like us but for 3 days was fine.

Their was a surcharge to use the spa which was reasonable and the frustrating thing was we had to wear swimming caps inside the spa which we had to pay extra for.The treatments were slightly expensive but I had an aromatic massage with Alessandra and she was great! All the spa ladies were lovely and extremely friendly. A huge thank you to them. The spa facilities themselves were brilliant with a sauna, a steam room and a huge pool with lots of jacuzzie jets, we went twice. The gym is also at an extra cost.

The location of the hotel was great and it was about a 5 minute walk to the beach and so close to shops and all the restaurants. Monte Gordo is a lovely town but fairly quiet and more tailored to the older couple or younger couples who want a quiet break. However, there is no option to book excursions through the hotel which was quite frustrating. They did have a library with various leaflets and used books which is a great idea but no way of booking the excursions of getting more information.

Also on the weekends it felt like local people were coming to the hotel and taking up the pool beds so the guests could not get any.

The overall decor of the hotel was quite funky and felt like we were in a cave. I felt like the hotel although a four star kept trying to make money in other ways which cheapened their standard. I would probably go back as it was quite a lovely stay and the facilities were great for a relxing break.

Room Tip: higher floors will have a better view

Went here for a long weekend. Easy to get from Faro to but difficult to park, unless you pay 12 euro`s a night. However you can get parking on the streets after the weekend. Great staff on check in and a good sized clean room with plenty of wardrobe space but very few hangers. Great sized double bed made up of two singles. We were at the back of the hotel as a late booking in busy season so did not have a balcony. As we were on the 8th floor the two lifts came in handy but were quite slow. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice but got very busy at peak times, go early would be my advice. There was entertainment but this was quite dated. The outside facilities are excellent and well kept. Lovely pool with beds, hammocks and Four poster double loungers. The gym and spa look very good as well but didn`t use these. We just ate cake for breakfast!!

Room Tip: Top Floor with a balcony

After visiting the hotel I tried to reserve a SPA session by phone. Being a non resident guest the SPA staff informed that based on the hotel administration rules, to confirm the reservation I had to pay the SPA session upfront!!!!

We stayed there for 4 nights. The room was pretty basic but clean and comfortable. The staff are great and the facilities are good. The only thing I found odd was the decor inside the communal areas of the hotel. They had some weird plaster effect that might have looked good in the 1970s but just looked cheap and made the place seem dingy. That said I'd have no quarms about going back. The beach is close by and brilliant. Lots of sunbed and white sand.

The staff at the hotel were lovely and extremely helpful. We arrived later than expected due to a flight delay but that was no problem. We were checked in and our room was already available. The room was spacious and clean. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and the campsite next door but some of the view was of the sea which was lovey. Bathroom was basic, a few minor complaints like scratched mirrors, a couple of cracked tiles and a little bit of flakey paint but was extremely clean!

Breakfast was busy after 8.45am but there was plenty of choice at the buffet. Hot breakfasts, pastries, cereal, yoghurts, fruits, fresh meat and cheese, also a staffed grill cooking different things each day. The evening meal had lots of meat choices but although a vegetarian option was offered it wasn't always great! A range of salads, cheese and bread freely available if isn't to your choice. A staffed grill in the evening cooking different things in an evening too. A few varieties of desserts available too which was excellent. My partner and I travelled without any children but there was a separate table with some 'child friendly' options on. Th waiting staff were extremely kind and by the end of our stay we didn't even have to say what drinks we wanted with our meal as they already had them ready when they saw us sit down!

There were ample sun beds and loungers around the pool which meant you didn't have to rush to claim a bed.

A lovely relaxing stay a short walk from the magnificent blue flag beach of Praia de Monte Gordo and close by to shops, it was also far enough away to stay extremely quiet!

Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
