Well worth the short drive to this quaint area. We visited many wineries, chocolate shops, nougat & nut house. Easy driving and everyone we met was lovely. Would go there again.

If you are in the Perth region, this would be a pleasant self drive which you can spend a few hours. If you are a die hard foodie, who have been to other regions such as Hunter Valley, this is not quite in the same league as Hunter Valley.

The entire drive is an easy one and very close to the freeways to the city so it makes this an easy day trip. But the trail was a little splotchy in terms of experience and service. It may be because we did not go in a large group, and it was winter - so we experienced some wineries which were not particularly welcoming.

In general, the portion which had the best overall experience and service was the lower area of West Swan Road, around where you find Providore, the Margaret River Chocolate Company, Yahava Coffeeworks. Yahava Coffeeworks has a scenic spot behind their building, which is a great place to get a cuppa and some snacks. You won't be able to see how scenic it is from the main road, until you get down and walk to the building. Of special mention is also Little River winery, which is just a little north of this area who provided great service.

It was great to water around the 34 km trail, stopping at food places and wineries to look and sample their wares. The chocolate places were a favourite.

Nice with having a food and wine valley not that far away from downtown. Driving around in the valley and try ice cream, wine, coffee, chocolate, oils, jams and much more is a perfect weekend activity. Perfect to spend a sunny half day.
