My husband and I stayed at Porth Tocyn with our grandsons during the school holidays for 6 days.
As usual we had a wonderful holiday and returned home happy rested and extremely well fed!
The 2 boys absolutely love it, and talk almost lovingly of the meals they have enjoyed on their 2 visits. Nick is very fair about their accommodation and it really works well for us.
Dinner is a most enjoyable experience, and breakfast provides just about anything you could ever wish for - fruits, pastries, home made presences, granola - the list is endless. The cooked selection equally good.
We feel the service is of an extremely high standard and the "Colefax and Fowler" type of soft furnishings and sofa fabrics work so well with the age and design of the old Welsh buildings.
We have been several times before as a couple and always enjoy ourselves - we would highly recommend Porth Tocyn to any discerning travellers.

No, we didn't get a warm welcome on arrival. It was lunch time and while being left to hang around the terrace while people were eating we felt we were intruding at a wedding party. Finally a young lady showed us our room with panoramic views across to Snowdonia.Wow! The room was very dated and tired but spotlessly clean. The overall impression was of an old peoples home with chintzy overstuffed chairs in numerous lounges. Not appealing to us or our 12 year old daughter. The breakfast was lovely and the atmosphere in the breakfast room was relaxed ..no whispering. The views really lifted our spirits. As we had our dog with us we had an evening meal on the terrace. It was a beautiful night, the mountains hazy and purple. The food was very special and Nic the owner was encouraging me to try the different cheeses..so I was rather full. Reading other reviews the negative ones state the owner Nic is rude and dislikes northerners. He seemed a bit eccentric but he wasn't rude to us and we're from Liverpool. He wasn't over friendly either but don't we all get fed up smiling and being overly nice when we stay at new places? He was just being himself and we didn't feel the need to always make small talk.when he spoke to us he told us a bit about his past and he was genuine and humorous. We won't ever forget our stay at Porth Tocyn. It was a relaxing, surprising, pleasant stay. Bit like being in an Agatha Christie film. Maybe we'll return one day.

Room Tip: Top floor. Very thin ceilings in annex and noisy with guests above you.

We stayed for one night at Porth Tocyn and it was lovely.

The bed was fantastic (super king) and the breakfast was very nice indeed.

It was pretty expensive but we booked last minute and it was very close to our friends' holiday let so we were more than happy.

Would recommend and would stay again.

Unbelievable range of quality food at a very nice setting. The food and the variety of food is right up my street so I love it there. Sunday Lunch offers a wide range of cold starters, hot mains and loads of delicious deserts!

Enjoyed a short break at the Porth Tocyn and enjoyed it very much.

This is a rambling country hotel within walking distance of the fashionable seaside village of Abersoch. It is located a short distance inland, with excellent views of the Cardigan Bay coast.

Do not expect cutting-edge luxury - that isn't the hotel's style. Rather, enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, with pleasant walks and good food.

The bedroom and public areas are rather old-fashioned and, indeed, sometimes a little shabby; that is all part of the hotel's charm. It is, however, very clean and comfortable. The staff are wonderfully pleasant and anxious to please.

It's a little on the expensive side - this is Abersoch, after all - but it's very much worth it.

Liked it a lot, and will probably return.

Room Tip: Get a sea view
