I ordered posta de vitela. I expected a veal stew. I was mistaken. The dish is a pwrfectly prepared grilled loin of veal. It was charred on the outside on all surfaces and different shades of pink throughout the center. This is perhaps the most delicious piece of grilled veal I've ever eaten. (But perhaps you should not put too much stock in that, as grilled veal is a dish I rarely eat.) In any event, the main dish simply was was perfect.
The veal was accompanied by a steamed combination of vegetables, primarily cabbage and kale. No fault there. The plate also had an obscene amount of fried shoestring potatoes. I tried them; they were okay.
The very professional veteran waiter strongly suggested the vegetable soup as a starter. I'm glad I accepted the suggestion.
while this is far for my first trip to Portugal, it is my first time in this region. I'm pleased that I tried a half bottle of the Flor do Tua: a local wine named for the river which flows past the city of Mirandela. The blend is heavy on the Touriga Nacional grape, grown in the schist of the local vineyards. (Please note that in the interest of decency the spell checker had to be overridden on the S word in the previous sentence.)
"3" is supposed to be an average restaurant, according to TripAdvisor's grading system. I give lots of threes. It is rare that I give a 5. This place deserves it.
