What a fantastic stay at LooLa, the perfect blend of adventure activities and blissful relaxation, something for everyone in the family. The LooLa staff were incredibly attentive to all our needs, exhibiting excellent professionalism in each of their roles, giving us full confidence in the safety of all of the activities and making our stay extremely pleasant. In our sea chalet, the ocean breeze made any need for fans or aircon redundant, keeping away any mosquitos, and the gentle sound of lapping waves provided for a soothing sleep. Great variety of excellent quality food. All in all we felt like being attended to in someone's home rather than in a resort, the staff are all working in harmony like a big family. We cannot recommend a stay at this resort highly enough.

I would have loved to give a rating of "very good", which would be well deserved, but there are two issues I have brought up in my feedback form and here again, which need attention.
heavy Mosquito attack on three days of our 4 days stay - spraying happens only on Fridays said the staff.
Mostly Luke warm food served, but more importantly I do urge management to look at the menu, especially knowing all guests come with kids - the food is too spicy and too much local. We would have welcomed a bit more variety for the kids.
As adult I loved most of the food provided (on 4 days there should be no repetition!), but not everyone loves the spicy food. Being focused on Eco friendly tourism which is appreciated, there should be an interest to provide healthy refreshments rather than MILO and 3 in 1 coffee with lots of sugar in it.

Else it was a great stay and the chalets are simple but very clean, the beds provide sufficient comfort for a good sleep and the bathroom is equipped with soap, shampoo and dental cream - no hot water, but I didn't miss it.
Noise level at night is very low and some days we had beautiful sunrises.

there is little noise from the waves bcs the water comes in gently when there is high tide and goes smoothly when there is low tide.
the terrace provides nice views and is large enough.

all kids activities are very well organised and safety is their prime concern which we really appreciated! Conti is the best - congrats to his polite way of explaining to kids and his good knowledge.
Most equipment is in very good conditions.
our kids loved and enjoyed all the activities.

The Table Tennis could be upgraded a bit - no balls and uneven surface.

In all a very nice experience and a recommendable place for families with kids. Make sure you have enough mosquito spray with you!

Great walks to the next small island during low tide with many crabs and other species like octopus, shrimp and fish.

Note: I have no idea why lights would be on all day and night in an eco friendly resort - this was the case every day!

Thank you for this very constructive review!

We fully understand your comments on the mosquitos, but the final solution should now just be a matter of weeks away!
For those interested in the mysteries of insect management, here's why:

Over the last year, we noticed that at odd times, the level of mosquitos could rapidly rise and we didn't understand why, so we engaged a wonderful group of professionals from Singapore (ATL Maintenance Pte Ltd), for an insect control analysis and action plan. Over the course of the last 2 months, ATL identified some minor breeding sources at LooLa itself (which have now been removed), plus some breeding sources in the neighboring village and the neighboring hotel (which are now being treated), and they set up, together with our staff, cleaning routines and (very light) bio-chemical intervention methods that clearly did the trick, because, in the week leading up to CNY, we were virtually mosquito-free.
Then, just before CNY, we suffered a sudden invasion of mosquitos (our staff also reported on this, just like you did).

We knew this couldn't be on account of our own mistakes, and we then realized it is because our neighbor hotel still does old-fashioned chemical fogging, which doesn't help and essentially just dislocates the mosquitos (they mostly just fly away from the fog).
The neighbor had, just before the CNY, executed a big fogging exercise, thus driving many mosquitos out of their own premises and into the neighbor's land, including LooLa's premises.
Having discovered this as the reason for the sudden increases, this also explains some of the previously unexplained problems, and why these problems coincided with the opening of our neighbor's business.
We enjoy good relations with the neighbors, and, having finally realized what causes the occasional mozzie issues, we are confident that we will jointly fully overcome the insect issues in the next few weeks.

On the matter of food, many guests do indeed like the food a lot (just as you say), and we know from long experience that if there is good communication between the kitchen and the guests on the food, the kitchen is able to make every guest very happy in terms of food.

So the issue here is purely to improve communication, and one of the things we have embarked on, as an Eco-resort, is strengthening the communication between all stakeholders and encouraging the kitchen staff (who are still working on their English) to come out and enquire directly with guests on the food.
We are confident that this will result in every guest raving about the (very high quality) local dishes, with a spicy or non-spicy twist, depending on how the guests like it!

I like your suggestion about the drinks, and we're trying to sell more eco-friendly snacks and drinks (you may have noticed the eco corner in the LooLa shop, which is fully run by our staff – the LooLa shop is our staff's own business), and the idea is to rapidly develop the ecological offerings in that shop and to demonstrate that eco isn't just good for the planet, but that it tastes better too! (note the village-baked Tapioca chips, sold in paper bags, which is way better than any pre-packaged chips)

Notice that in the next few months, we aim to be 100% on green energy (at the moment we're between 40 - 70% on solar energy) while providing solar power-driven hot water to all chalets, so, in short, all the items you mentioned are being addressed and will get settled.

Thank you once again for your review!

I came with a group of families. Which include toddler, children, adults and elderly.

The resort side is very helpful to accommodate different age groups. On terms of meal, accommodation and activities.

Great experience!

Thank you for taking good care of the group.

What a wonderful experience closest to nature. We got the chalet in the sea. Yes in the sea, where the water comes below the room due to high tide and you can really feel that sea is just below you. And in day time you can see thousands of crabs, fishes below your room. Amazing food and very accommodating because we were vegetarian. They have given us many choices especially rice cooked in coconut leaves, potato curry, tofu curry, veg barbecue, wood fire pizza and fresh juices. It is not a five star resort but the benefit is so peaceful that you really feel that you are alone in the nature

Dear Ankesh,

We are glad to hear that you've had such a wonderful experience at LooLa and the chance to see and observe the wide array of marine life around our resort.

Our chef and kitchen staff do take great pride in cooking up a variety of local vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian guests. The wood fire pizza being one of LooLa's signature activities:)

It’s quite an adventure getting to Loola Resort itself, what with a 2-hour ferry ride followed by a 1-hour car journey to reach the resort. Loola Resort may not appear as fancy or modern neighbour, The Residence Bintan, but makes for the modern creature comforts with warm and sincere hospitality and laid back feel that makes you feel actually rested on a holiday.

In some ways, you feel like you’re transported back to the good old kampung days surrounded by a tightly knit community. The basketball court may feel old and even slightly dangerous around the edges, but here the staff, and even their family members, will actually play with you when they’re free.

Activities are all-inclusive in the package. You can choose to go for a tidal walk during low ride which stretches all the way out to the neighbouring islands, kayak around the mangrove swamps, or take a boom net boat ride.

The mozzies were a bit of a bother at night but once you get under the mosquito nets, things are under control. The final night culminated in a BBQ dinner around a campfire, which was really special.

The eco-consciousness of the resort, in which they seek to equip villagers all around Indonesia with a basic hygiene system, is highly commendable and a unique feature of the resort.

If you ever want a low-cost retreat with a bunch of good friends, and just really chill out, this is the place to be.
