Very disappointed at the poor quality food served during afternoon tea. Short boat trip, No variety sandwiches, stale scones and a few fancy cakes. all this for £35 per person, no value for money.Would not recommend the afternoon tea.

A very enjoyable stay. The guy on reception could not have been more helpfully when we arrived & checked in. He also helped us carry our bags to our room. The room was spotless and very comfortable. When we checked in we had to specify what time we would like breakfast the next morning and we were given a pre-order breakfast menu to hang outside our bedroom door. The breakfast was excellent with a choice of either a ‘Light Breakfast’ or a ‘Full English’. Perhaps the only disappointment was the bacon was Danish, rather than English, always nice to have locally produce!

We didn’t eat dinner in the evenings as we arrived to late on the first evening and we were at a wedding somewhere else on the second evening but I gather the food and service is excellent.

The hotel has free onsite parking.

If anyone likes walking I can recommend a walk along the River Blackwater (one minute from the hotel) down to Heybridge Basin, it lovely down there. It was 45-60 minutes at a slow pace to the Basin.

I will definitely stay at Le Bouchon again if I’m in the area.

Room tip: Free Parking. Lovely walks along the banks for the River Blackwater, one minute from the hotel, to Haybridge Basin

Stayed in a beautiful room with a four poster bed. The room was very clean and beautifully presented. The food was also outstanding, I suffer with a milk allergy and could not have asked for better service being assured all was dairy free and it was. We had a fantastic nights sleep and the bathroom facilities were great, with lovely toiletries. Almost definitely the best part of our stay was our outing on the Bicycles at the hotel. We had a lovely cycle out along the river and got a beautiful coffee and cake along the river after only 20 minutes or so of cycling. The cycle paths and accessibility made it very easy.

We could not have asked for anything better with our stay and would absolutely stay again and recommend.

Visited here for the first time to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We decided to book the stay and dine package and upgraded to the 6 course tasting menu along with wine pairings.
Arrived and parked in the hotel car park which is small but adequate. Checked in by very friendly staff and shown to our room (4) an upgrade at no cost!! room was clean and comfortable. there was a new style 4 poster bed painted white, (personally I would have preferred to see an older style natural wood one which was more befitting of the building age) the bathroom was adequate, a little small but ok. As we were early we went to the bar which is well decorated and bright. We were served straight away and had a couple of drinks. Changed for dinner and returned for an aperitif before eating, were given a free glass of house champagne to celebrate our anniversary which was very nice. Taken through to the restaurant by our waiter who was very attentive but sorry didn’t get his name, he was obviously knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings. Obviously being a tasting menu we didn’t expect large portions but they were certainly more than adequate and the wines were a full glass each time. All food was delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented.
Breakfast the next morning was well cooked and presented (had to be ordered the night before but assume that’s COVID related)
I would certainly recommend le bouchon for a special occasion or just a very pleasant evening.
Only let down was it’s location on the edge of an industrial area and the road was a little noisy.

We chose the area for a short break based on the low covid infections in the area with the added bonus that we had friends living short drives away. We were one of the first guests post lockdown and could not have been made more welcome by Emily the manager and the rest of the team. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with a varied supply of coffee/tea making facilities, and the bathroom supplies.were as good as anywhere. Also, very good quality towels. An extra bonus was two pairs of disposable slippers. Breakfast was individually prepared and served at the table and was of a very high standard. We only sampled the light option and it was ore than we could manage, and we were encouraged to take the uneaten pastries with us in a nicely presented box.

Room tip: There is piped music in the restaurant until 10pm so if this matters to you make sure your room does not pick this up.
