Beautiful garden with large open areas. The special dinosaurs exhibit is fun for the children to explore. Bring your picnic and enjoy the sunshine.

The gardens are beautiful and very relaxing to wander through. Whatever you do you must take a packed lunch or or leave and eat elsewhere. The cafe is awful - food is very ordinary and the staff are unhappy and impatient. The meal experience was not the relaxing time to reflect on the visit with friends and to check photos

We had tremendous enjoyment at an After Dark Event organised in the Botanical Gardens 1st July. It was the precursor to having our 5-year-old grandson stay-over for a first so there was great excitement, on both sides!

The event began with lantern-making: for some-one Type A the initial lack of instructions/instructor had me stressing out - fortunately; my husband, ever calm and invariably pragmatic, reminded me that this was a fun event and there was no wrong way to make a paper lantern!

Our ranger was very good indeed: she engaged meaningfully with old and young alike, without ever seeming condescending to the most inane of questions/comments - informative, without overload.

The event blurb did advise the need for reasonable fitness/ability and this was good advice: the combination of pitch darkness (even with our well-constructed lanterns) and unfamiliar, uneven terrain was a challenge, in parts. I was grateful that the ranger paced the walk appropriately.

The sudden sightings of overhead terra dactyls, the swirling atmospheric 'freezing fog' in the undergrowth and encroaching dinosaurs made for great excitement all round. We were sure the warmth of the car, accompanied by the late hour, would have sent our 5-year-old off to sleep: not so! He was still chattering about the event an hour after we arrived home.

Thank you National Botanical Gardens Canberra: we had a wonderful memorable event/evening.

We've come to Canberra many times and will admit never gave the Gardens much thought. However the Dino Walk during the holidays enticed us. We are glad it did. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the entire of the gardens whilst finding the dinosaurs. Our fav was the rainforest Walk section. Thanks for a great free school holiday activity.

Great layout. Have visited many times with young and very old, always popular with everyone. Lots of fun, cafe can be $$ so bring a picnic. Free story time and craft if you look into it. Don't miss it
