This hotel is right in The Rocks and a one minute walk to the cruise departure area. There are dozens of excellent shops and restaurants nearby and it's easy to hop on a ferry at Circular Quay. The rooms are of an average size, but fine, and are extremely clean. Water pressure was excellent throughout my stay.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, always nice after a long day of traveling.
There's a lovely (small) pool and hot tub on the roof and that area gives great harbour view, even if there's a cruise ship docked nearby. In fact, we were able to relax in the hot tub and watch fireworks over the Opera House.
Sydney Harbour is a popular cruise ship stop and I'm not sure why so many reviewers are puzzled and irritated by cruise ships being there constantly. Tourists come to tourist spots, which is generally why we're there as well. Even with 5,000 cruisers debarking, the area is still peaceful, charming, and with plenty of space to eat and shop without any difficulty.

Great older boutique hotel right at the Harbour Bridge. Great access to sights and shopping and restaurants. Beautiful lobby and quaint lobby bar. Staff was great, friendly and helpful. Room was small but very comfortable and the price was very good. I would stay here again and it's right across from the cruise dock.

The Harbour View rooms are a waste of money as there are cruise ships blocking the harbour view every day. The water pressure in the showers is poor. The room is quite dated. Best to save your money and get the cheapest room. The location is possibly the best feature.

Room tip: Avoid the harbour view rooms

There is the largest cruise ship I've ever seen blocking our ENTIRE view of the Opera House and 75% of the Harbour. Just traveled across the world to check in today and look at this hideous cruise ship. A real disappointment as you certainly don't see the awful cruise ships in the photographs promoting the hotel. Doesn't reflect well on Rydges nor on Sydney overall allowing a ship to drop off 5,000 tourists at one time to buy T-Shirts. Ugghhh!!!

Room tip: Ask for the Cruise Ship schedule to determine whether you will have any view.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback. While the cruise is a unfortunate distraction obstructing your view they are only there until 5pm in the evening giving guests a wonderful uninterrupted sunset view of the Sydney Harbour.

While the location of this hotel in the Rocks is terrific, the rooms really need updating. Very small & the bathroom not pristine. Walk into a large, lovely lobby - small bar area to one side - & then the disappointment of the room.
Pool area also not as pictured & in need of updates.
