The Rocks is one of the best areas of Sydney and this hotel should match it.
It doesn't, poor management trying to cope with undertrained and student staff are the problems.
They all say yes with a smile but they can't do the job. You really want them too but no they always fall just short.
The hotel is dark, the rooms small with poor bathrooms, expensive food and little atmosphere.
The Wi-fi/Mobile service is awful and because of this we booked two seperate early morning calls as back up, yes you've got it, they didn't happen.
The one plus point for us was that when we arrived at 7.45 am after a long overnight flight they found us a room. Not many hotels do that !

The Harbour Rocks Hotel is carved out of antique buildings in The Rocks section of Sydney, the oldest section. It is a good location, particularly if you are coming off a cruise ship at Circular Quay. It is only a couple of blocks from the cruise ship dock. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are only a couple of downsides. The place is just a bit shop worn, things like stained carpets and light fixtures that don't quite work right. Also you have to pay for internet access. In this day and age free access seems to be pretty much the expected norm in hotels. On balance it is a good, quiet spot to lay your head.

If you like to walk, this is the perfect location, close to the Opera House, Bridge, Botanic Gardens. An old warehouse had been converted into a small, charming boutique hotel. The staff is very friendly but unobtrusive. I would definitely stay here again the next time I am in Sydney.

The hotels location is great for the main tourist activities and transport but is quiet and comfortable. Whilst the room was small it was adequate for our needs and the hotels public spaces are comfortable. I will return.

The Harbour Rocks Hotel is in a former hospital/wool store plus adjoining terraces. It has been creatively remodelled to showcase the colonial skeleton of the building. It is a boutique hotel, so do not expect a gymnasium, pool or other such amenities. In fact, there are no lifts for guests. Our luggage took a ride in the small service lift, but we had to walk up two sets of stairs to the third floor. We did have a view of the Opera House from our window, so no complaints from me. Breakfast and dinner were down one more set of stairs from Reception, to the Scarlett restaurant, which has access to the Nurses' Walk. Breakfast was a pleasant (modest) buffet for $25 with a $10 option to add a cooked dish. Staff were attentive, personable and helpful. Iced tea (with fruit infusion) was a nice touch in the foyer after a day's activities. A delightful hotel with atmosphere. Will stay again.
